Rex Hunt, what a ****

Just switched on to see him playing a fish, then trying to be clever tried to catch another one at the same time with a rod in each hand. Due to this he left the first fish half in, half out of the water. This resulted in the fish having it's back quarter ripped to shreds by other fish. This was bad enough but in the next shot he decided to drop the 3/4 fish back in the water still alive for the other fish to carry on ripping away at it's what was once it's tail.

 

This is a bad advert for fishing let alone for the poor fish involved.

 

Can we start a BAN REX HUNT group up

I would be right behind you on this one . . we don't need this kind of "embassidor" for our sport. He is no gent and a real amature at fish handling. Pliers seemed to be regular tools, and once saw him fishing a feeder off a hydro power station wall and drop a small trout back to the river about 40 feet at least below.

 

purley un-needed, I stopped watching the yibbety yabbada fool a long time ago, but guess he has not changed his poor practices.

I haven't seen that programme, but from what you say I have to agree that it is not a good advert for our pasttime.

 

However, I am also concerned about the title of this thread, even with the *s in place....

Let us not forget that different standards apply in different countries. From what I've read Rex is regarded as quite a conservationist down under. Anglers in many countries regard the way we treat our fish as either hillarious or incomprehsible. Would the average UK angler 30 years ago not have said similar things about our current standards (barbless hooks, no keepnets, unhooking mats, knotless mesh, fish first-aid etc etc)??

 

So whilst I agree with your general point that it doesn't do our image much good (it's dirt cheap TV for Discover H&L however), consider that he is making his programs for an Australian audience, and it is largely us that are out of step with the rest of the world and not the other way round.
