Thats what i have been thinking but the other clue is 'pulled taut, as pole elastic might be' and my answer is STRETCHED which fits. :confused:

If i changed it to TENTIONED it would fit but is TENTIONED a word? It would also mean the river flowing into the Severn is the Teme.

tensioned is spelt with an S , and teme would be right , as I live 1/2 a mile from where the Teme joins the severn
