I'm jealous. I only fish for mullet. Catching one that size at this time of year is quite a feat. If I were the jealous type, I'd be jealous.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

All,

Couple questions.

First, how do you target a grey mullet? Or, do you catch them by accident using a "catch anything" approach? I see this angler used bread and a #8 hook. Any special rig that would "limit" bites to mullet or even improve your chances the fish might be a mullet?

Cory,

You say "you only fish for mullet". How do you do that - limit yourself to a target species using bread?

Second, where in the UK (what region) is Emperor Lakes at Lodiswell? A 42+ mirror is a nice carp, especially if it is a naturally wild carp.

Phone

I used to be a "bufflao" fisherman. Carp became such a nuisance I became a carp fisherman. (still like my buffalo best but it is "extremely" difficult to "catch only" buffalo.

First of all I only use bread as bait. I've tried maggots but never had any success with them, so I stick to what works. I use size six or eight barbless hooks, a 13' Avon float road and ABU closed face reel loaded with 6lb monofilament. At the places I fish I have only ever caught thick lipped mullet, thin lipped mullet (close, but no cigar) and the occasional small sea bass (a pain in the ass). Once the water temperature drops below 10OC I put my rod away until spring time. Edited by corydoras

Stricly speaking mine is not an Abumatic, although I have had them in the past. Mine is a ABU 704.

The tactics for mullet are child's play. A bit of bread on a 10 hook, 6lb line about 12" under the float. Throw in a bit of liquidised bread and that's about it. Simple! Except that the mental hospitals of the UK are full of mullet fishermen suffering non-catch disorder. They are the most infuriating of fish and quite addictive. Got to go now. The doctor has brought a new psychologist to see me today.............
