Must have lure selection - What would it be.

That blue colour illustrated in the post is a dead ringer for Azurine flank (see photo on museum thread) although you would have to overpaint the fins in yellow.

That suggests a new bit of one-upmanship for lure anglers "I caught it on an artificial Azurine" :)

:D On the subject of which though Dave what do you reckon the chances of getting a day or two sorted for a "fish in" for them? bet theres a lot (if not all of us on here) that havnt caught one and would like to.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

However if I were restricted to just 1 lure

I always take my spinner making kit with me to the river

so if river is in flood & dirty , I make up a size 4 spinner with bright beads & a silver blade

but if river is small i will make a size 2 spinner with gold blade

also many other variations when conditions differ

As it takes less than 2 mins to make a spinner from scratch then

it is not a hassle to carry a small spinner making kit with you

So getting back to the question

5 must have lures

then for me it would be

5 spinners , All different sizes & colours

It's a thought.

I know of a water (now a commercial) that is supposed to have already had an original stock of both Azurines and Silver Bream. when the present owner took over. There is a better chance of getting an Azurine (and a Silver Bream) there than anywhere else I know.

Lots of other fish have gone in since, and it is very much a "fish-a-chuck" water with more species than you can shake a stick at. A lot of disabled anglers fish there - very wheel-chair friendly.

It is one of the first venues I used to turn to if involved in an annual species hunt. An easy eight species in a couple of hours or so (and that's not counting the Azurines as anything other than Rudd) Which eight ? Roach, Rudd, Bream, Silver Bream, Carp, Tench, Perch and Gudgeon. All easy, and there are also Eels and Grass Carp in there - and who knows what else ?

It would have to be a very light-hearted exercise, as (apart from an occasional silver bream up to 2 lb) it is not a "specimen" water - although with all those tiddlers in there, a decent perch is on the cards.

Mid-April onwards would be the best time. If there is enough genuine interest I will have a word with the owner, and see what can be arranged, but the better of the two day-ticket ponds is only a small water and a dozen anglers would be shoulder to shoulder.

Definitely a "one rod" water ! Turning up with "all the gear" would be like enlisting a battle fleet to shoot a sparrow :)

I have only ever fished it mid-week, but understand it can be crowded at weekends.
