Everybody seems to love the Shakespeare Big S

Why ?

I've got a dozen or so foundlings in various states of repair that I'm going to have to dig out and either use or post off to someone who likes them.

My choice for UK freshwater

Big gold spinner, like Ondex. For pike

Small silver spinner, like Mepps. For perch, chub, trout, and estuarine bass.

Silver wobbling spoon such as ABU Atom. For pike

Floating/diving plug, such as ABU Cello. For pike - especially in lily-covered estate lakes.

Deep-running jointed plug - ABU Hi-Lo can be set for various depths. For pike and ferox.

Note these are all pretty old-fashioned, but they still catch. When my "life-times supply" of these lures gives out - which could be soon, as I resolve to do much more lure fishing this year (Yes, its 2012 here in Tasmania - do keep up :) ) then I will have to think of what I replace them with.

'Cos they consistently catch (perch and pike), I have a stabding joke with my son about their effectivness, he thinks rge lure is brilliant and saves any day from blanking. I play them down, but know he has it rght really,

Funny how that happens. I've got old and new Big 'S' lures and they both seemingly suck big time, having caught next to nothing on any of them.

I do have a similar lure. A Rapala Risto Rap, which I suppose takes it's shape from alphabet-type lures and it's a very good lure.

I suppose lure fishing is like that though.

One man's banker is another man's blanker << see now that just brilliant. I wonder why I hadn't thought of it before.
