Visiting a new water, last summer, I was very eager to set up. I kept making silly mistakes, like tying the hook onto the line, before putting a float on. Anyway, when I did set up, I forgot to tuck my half blood knot. I realised I'd done it, before trimming the line, but no way was I going to untie it again. Twenty minutes later, I was playing what seemed to be my biggest ever fish, when the knot gave. I will never make that mistake again!

You meet all kinds of animal on the riverbank.
