Legal Loop Holes

Of course you would also fix the problem of the same record fish being caught all the time if you set the size just right!

it would be interesting if a german onlooker (there must be some) could tell us how it works over there ,i'm sure any legislation made would be based on a working model ,any we make let those with legal knowledge walk through them whist catching out the not so well represented

Gudgeon are good eating!

I've enjoyed eating pike and perch. (I can't say that I like roach much).

I often fish with the intention of eating the fish I catch, and often do (my freezer's looking a bit empty at the mo' though).

Trouble is, whenever I'm after chub, along comes a 1lb 10 oz roach, then a pike takes a spinner meant for perch, and the luncheon meat cube meant for minnows is taken by a dog chub :(

Perhaps I better stick with fishing for mackerel until the summer comes, then have a go for the whiting.

England's greatest angler (Mr Crabtree) always used to take one home for the pot, whether it was tench, carp or eel he was fishing for. Unfortunately, all mine are either too small to have bred, or are so old they will be like leather to eat.

Best return it, and hope for a better one later

MrMatthew:

I think of the weight limits were set too high (eg 6lb for a roach) it would be viewed as unrealistic though, for this idea to work someone will surely have to eat coarse fish, even if only very occaisionally.

Gudgeon pie anyone?

This really does become frustrating! For years, I have been suggesting a possible defence for angling. I am not saying that my idea is the way to go - but it is a step in the right direction. Other people have suggested other ideas but without exception, more reasons for not adopting the ideas have been mooted than ideas to make them better than the original suggestion.

Some anglers would not support the fight against the fox hunting ban because they didn't like fox hunting.

They will not support the CA because they do not feel that the CA will support them

They will not SAY that they are fishing for the table because they don't want to kill fish.

There is an old saying that "all is fair in love and war", and as sure as hell, altruism is not going to defend your sport.

Remember, when angling is banned and you point out to people that such a ban was unnecessary because you put all of your fish back, the answer is likely to be that the fish are obviously better off, because they don't have to be put back any more being as they never get caught and taken from the water.

I wasn't suggesting that the weight for a roach SHOULD be 6lbs for goodness sake, it is simply an idea that could be developed, and people do eat coarse fish. There is little wrong with a baked perch and pike isn't bad either. However, I am not suggesting that everyone starts eating coarse fish, I am just trying to suggest a means of defence which is something the angling fraternity appears to lack at the moment!

Carp are good eating (but only smaller ones) like most fish, those that are only just 'mature' tend to be the best for the pot.

If a 'pot fishing' law were to be implemented then the sizes would probably have to be at 1 or 2 years after 'breeding size' to counter any 'anti' types.

As for giving way to the 'antis', every time a bit of our or any other country sport has another bit of legislation applied to it the 'antis' push the wedge a bit more.

There are many on here that think that livebaiting is wrong, many that think match fishing a bit 'iffy', many that think killing fish wrong, many game anglers think all fish caught should be killed.

All are right and all are wrong.

We cannot budge an inch on any facet of our sport.

We all must support those who pursue areas of our sport that we may not agree with or participate in or we will lose the lot.

(IMHO!)

Yes, that is another question that will have to be answered. There will be plenty of them and now is the time to begin to formulate those answers. It will be hopeless trying to answer a lot of them on spec when asked them at the water's edge.
