Fantastic, get a pic up Steve! He did very well in these conditions, although maybe lower down the snow had less effect? In any case, that's a hell of a brace.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

The strange thing about Saturday was that we were getting bites, great clonking bites which were difficult to hit. I can't believe they were roach, even in those temps I'm pretty sure the chub were feeding.

Well done to Steve H, that’s a whole pound bigger/fatter than the one I caught a couple of weeks back and I’m really struggling to picture it. I reckon this week would be a good time to have another go for them, a day or two for the snow melt to wash through and then a small increase in water temperature….plus the new superbait ;)

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

I hate to say it and I hope I'm proved wrong, but I think by next weekend it'll be too warm for them

Still, as this proves very nicely, if you're fishing you're in with a chance of something exceptional happening.

I heard stories - all of which I have reason to believe - about really enormous chub from two other local/localish rivers over the weekend. We really are living in a golden age for big chub, lucky us! In fact, we are incredibly lucky, as apart from a handful of other oddballs no-one else is interested B)

Rivers empty of anglers and home to giant fish...heaven :)

The captor of the fish in the OP has a theory that we're enjoying the fruits of a particularly good bygone year-class of chub, maybe 10 years ago. A diet of signals is helping but the number of large chub being reported suggests that a lot have survived previous years and continued to grow on into lumpdom.

The future will be interesting, it would be good if other good year-classes were coming through.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back
