Bait bombardment!!!!

Yesterday I sat and watched a couple of young carpers put in way to much bait.

When I say way to much they had not even had a bleep - let along a run.

I know this as I did go and speak to them. It turns out they have never fished in the winter time before and were just doing what they would do in the summer. As the sun was out and it had been very warm for a few days they assumed the fish would be having a feeding spree!

I pointed them in the right direction for next time even had them see how long they could keep their hands in the water to get across how cold it is!!!!

It would not surprise me if this type of thing (loads of bait) was happening on other waters across the country of the weekend.

It is sad as their are very experienced Carp fishermen out there but due a lot to the magazines there isn't too!

we use the old "are the fish in garden pond feeding" ploy!

in other words my fishing buddy wanders into his back garden and sees if his koi and goldfish fancy some grub when he throws it in. usually a very good indicator on whether its worth heading out or not.

plus i always thought it takes 3-4 days for the water temp to be changed enough by ground and air temp to alter fish behaviour...and we certainly have not had that many days constant steady temp increase.

reading the carp mags and watching the tv shows im shocked by how much bait they put in all the time! let alone this time of season! some bloke i watched the other day made up a bucket full, suggssted he would have thrown all that in within the next hours or so and would require a further 2 buckets later on in his session!!! :o

makes my 2 pint maggot tub of halibut pellets that lasts me 2 or 3 trips look mighty small! LOL!

Spoke to a couple of youngsters last week, they were starting into the 2nd bucket of "spod mix", they hadnn't caught anything in the previous 24 hours. I gently asked why they were putting in more feed, and the reply was that "the carp have probably eaten it all by now..............................so why had they not caught one? (I asked myself :) )

Den

"When through the woods and forest glades I wanderAnd hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,And hear the brook, and feel the breeze;and see the waves crash on the shore,Then sings my soul..................

I read an interesting article on over the top baiting up: http://carp-fishing-reels.com/cfr-article-...ips/baiting-up/

It's unfortunate that many magazines and now the majority of fishing tv shows encourage this method of collosal bait approach. It's unhealthy on many levels, only benefiting bait companies, not anglers and not the fish. The fact is that many young anglers take the advice as gospel and it is producing a generation of bait bombarders.

Have a look at the 'thinking tackle' Korda videos on YouTube, and try to find one where they're not spodding loads of bait to the horizon!

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

i think it was something like that i caught on Shed that was creating this uber spod mix which he promptly chucked into a mortar and launched 250 yards across the lake to the opposite bank where he could have walked and dropped his bait off the tip of his rod! LOL!

There was a quite well known angler recently on TV who was fishing for Carp. The pool was no bigger than 3 acres. After a break they came back to him and asked how much he had put in and the reply..25KG!!. That is 25Kg from 1 angler in a 3 acre pond WTF!

thenhe produced one carp of about 15lb for a whole day...the mind boggles!
