Glad When Winter's Here!

Dunno about you lot, but I'll be glad when winter is here. I don't cover my pond and it's a mass of leaves right now

cover it up then! rotting leaves aint good for the fish. my dad is so into his koi that he put a conservatory over his pond to keep out leaves and herons. just make a light weight frame out of 2" x 1" timber and put garden mesh on it.

I agree with you there Rich, put a simple frame with mesh over the pond for a couple of weeks until the leaves have stopped falling. A bit unsightly but it will help prevent the bottom of the pond silting up

It's not me who's whining, it's the wife. Every time I push her in to get the leaves out, she just has to moan.....

Me too, the ponds bloomin full of leaves from the apple tree but i don't want to cover it. I just try to net out as much as possible.

Koi, IIRC leaves from apple trees can be very nasty if left to decompose in your pond, they release toxins into the water that could poison your fish

 

Autumn doesn't last very long, and if you are handy with a few bits of wood and coated plastic mesh (or know someone who is), you could try to make a temporary feature from it instead of having an eyesore to look at.
