Bring back John Wilson. Now there is a man who trod on his own rods in his boat and picked up a carp and dropped it while saying 'Well would you believe it'!

I know at OBH one day i was there he fell out of the boat while having a pike on his line. It never got on TV but it was hilarious and he had to give the rod to the cameraman. Well the camera man lost his grip and dropped his camera in the water . Well he managed to retrieve the boat and land it. he never got annoyed at all and did that chuckle and shook his head and said 'Well what a beautiful pike they are in beautiful condition and then the camera crew shouted out its all cut and he said to his soaking cameraman 'Well would you adam and eve it' :D :D :D :D

 

Love the episode where he's examining a pike with a spinal deformity, then promptly juggles it, dropping it on to and smashing his rod in the process (while a duck "laughs" in the background). :D

I used to really enjoy his programs, but now he has gone all kill everything that moves my enjoyment of watching him is cooled a little. Shame really as he was once one of my fishing idols, now he is just some zealot who's views conflict with mine.

in other words i cant stand the bloke.

Well I can't speak for Robson's new show, since his last outing was pure dirge.

 

I think we could all make comparisons about Chris Yates and Bob James and John Wilson but really.

 

A Passion For Angling, as much as I love and own the it, is an outing on how to be a complete ponce, rolling about in grass together, wearing cravats and drinking wine. It really should have been called a A Passion For Disco, since neither of the two came across as anything than a lorded pair of woofters. It's magical, yes but so is Goodfellas but in real-life, I've never tried to whack anyone.....yet. For much the same reason, I'm pretty unlikely to ever own a sporting jacket or have a wine-glass in my tackle-box.

 

John Wilson may have been the greatest TV presenter of all time, since he did have that watch-ability but really, if I had heard, "Let's put it back roight away", one more time, after looking at his catch suck fresh air for a good 10 minutes, I might have slit my own throat. What he did was come across as the common bloke, doing something that pretty much anyone 'could', with a little imagination, hope to emulate and for that, power to him.

 

The thing with Robson is he makes a TV show. Nobody with a normal bank balance is ever going to hope to emulate the exploits of Mr. Green, so for that reason, it's not really an angling show in the Hugh Miles or the John Wilson sense. If it entertains people for an hour, then he's done his job and he'll get another outing, since for some reason, Robson Green is actually quite popular on TV, as much as that statement makes me wince.

 

I tell you one thing, I'd rather watch Robson Green these days than watch the back-patting exploits of the Korda Militant Lesbian Society.

He is now a crusader for the Predation Action Group. I have no time at all for them and their campaign. I opened my May copy of Pike & Predator magazine the other day and they have taken out a whole page to advertise there sorrow case with a logo of an Otter eating the head off a Barbel. Total bunch of narrow minded individuals but sadly as they can not see the bigger picture they likely to spoil fishing for the rest of us.
