What is "eggshell skull" Steve?

Legal doctrine that if (for example) you hit someone who - unknown to you - has a very thin skull and he dies as a result, you are still held liable for the consequences of your action.

What is "eggshell skull" Steve?

Sometimes used in court as a defence against a murder charge - "Yes, your honour, I did cosh the victim over the head, but had no way of knowing about their congenitally thin cranium. Someone with a normal skull would merely have been stunned, which was, of course my intention in delivering the blow."

Edited to say - Whoops, sorry - crossed with Steve's reply.

Cory,

No idea about Aussies. Canada's system of justice protects the "crown" from public humiliation in about every way the UK protects the "crown". Would the Ausies have broken any law if they were Brits? By the very nature of trying what they tried they knew or should have known it was at best immoral or unethical by British subject standards (I'd hope). What they did was wrong. Wish I'd have gone ahead and said what I thought before this lady died. I now sound like a hyprocrit myself. Maybe from time to time I am - but not in this case.

Regardless, of the woman's mental health, which seems to me to be unrelated the the initial "act". A definition of "normal" would include a breading point. If I were a vindictive person I would hope similarly hilarious concenquences are suffered by the perpetrators. Wouldn't that be "funny"?

Well, no, I guess I'm not quite THAT disposed or inclined to revenge for a good laugh.

If it were the UK, it appears that it would be covered by The Fraud Act of 2006.

They were dishonest.

They stood to gain - listeners/kudos.

They did decieve the hospital staff.

It would be interesting to see them prove that a prank phone call led to her death and not a combination of factors.

Im sure there will be other issues, such as you suggested with possible disciplinary measures from her workplace.

Capt,

I'm saying - in fact - the chain of event began with the call. You can't assume she was going to commit this once in a lifetime act without the event.

No doubt the legal minds will "follow the money" with a shotgun approach to culpability, there's plenty of blame to go around. It is undeniable she was murdered. I doubt that will be in dispute.

Undeniable she was murdered?? Sorry Phone but that is absolute nonsense!

The presenters would have had to make the call with the express intention of killing her for that to be true.

There must have been other factors in her life to make her suicidal (If it was indeed suicide)...

How many other telephone pranks can you think of that led to someone killing themselves?
