So just 7 weeks left. Who's planning next season already?

With just 7 wks left, I am already thinking of next season, having rit off this season. I plan on getting to as many new waters as possible. Aiming to try a lot of small waters & re-learn 'trotting' again, as have mainly feeder fished last few years. I miss the short rod (6'-8') fishing & the delicate tactics required.

Fishing is the most peaceful & solitary group activity a going. Every watewr is different every day, thanks for that as same would be boring....

got a few things planned; biggest one is:

a location in Essex with a specimen carp lake and a lake with cats up to about 70lb. looking at the possibility of a Pen Rod adventure there to se if we can smash the world record on the rods and get it on video.

Still focused on trying to get some winter fishing in before the end of the season. It's so frustrating at this time of year when the days are too short for midweek evening sessions, missing a weekend means a long time without getting out there.

I've hardly fished the last 3 years so most of all I'm planning to put that right.

To begin with I intend going perch fishing, both at a local commercial and on my own water at Wingham. This will be up to when the perch spawn.

I'll then be fishing at Wingham for bream and tench. The tench fishing is relatively easy at Wingham early season, but a lot of them come out at night at that time of the year. And the Wingham bream are definitely nocturnal. So this will be 2 night sessions.

I'm particularly excited about the prospects of a monster tench at Wingham as we have some very long ones. These are young fish that haven't filled out yet, and indeed most won't even have reached their maximum length yet. Tench grow for about 15 years in length then fatten up for another 5 years or so after that. Fishery scientists tell me that this fattening up happens from the front first, which is why many of the young Wingham tench have long slim tails.

My targets are a 4lb perch and a 12lb tench from Wingham.

Not expecting much from the remainder of the river season but will try to do some perch fishing if conditions improve but in my head I have already switched over to planing my still water fishing. I have the dates in my diary and signed work leave card for most of my Tench fishing from March through to the end of June. I'm hoping to combine the Tench fishing with ago for a big eel.

Come the summer I plan to do some fishing for Cats as I would like to get a big Wels and had thought of doing some Carp fishing at the same time. However as the Cat fishing will take me to more commercial waters I thought it might be an interesting side line project to target the Roach on these waters at the same time.

To be honest the fishing this year on my local river Lea has not been very good, well for me anyway and so I am planning to cull most of my club tickets and fish mainly day ticket still waters next winter. I will still take a winter ticket on a certain stretch of the Lea that has a few nice fish even though it has not been kind to me this year. It has the odd good Perch & Chub but oddly the Pike seem to have done a disappearing act this year or simply wised up a bit.

Just recently not fished much in the close season, used to love Tenching in May / June, but the problem around these parts is most of the still waters have been flooded by the River Severn, so any Tench /Carp are in Sabrina.

I plan to fish as much as possible all year round.

There are stillwaters and the sea you know. :)

"So just 7 weeks left." for some of us it just seven or so weeks to go, before we can get out on the rivers, in the meantime its the stocked still waters for me.
