Trace lines

I did a search for memor-x and found this

http://www.abfishingtackle.com/acatalog/ultima-memorx-snood-and-rig-line.html

Normally the weight given on the spool is the breaking strain, but as you can see from the above they dont do that line in 8lb breaking strain.

For leaders the recognised formula is 10lb for every ounce cast, ie 6oz lead - 60lb breaking strain leader.

Hook lengths are more of a personal matter. There is no real need to go light as we have to consider abrasion etc. In fact a degree of stiffness in the hook length can be a plus helping to reduce tangles. 18- 30lb breaking strain being the norm.

I suggest looking at this forum http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/forum.php beginners and improvers and read the posts re rigs.

8 lb describes the breaking strain of the line and in no shape or form is it strong enough for sea fishing, a minimum of 25lb for snood lengths and a minimum of 50lb for trace bodies(preferably 60lb) depending on what type of ground you fish over. I use MemorX, it is quality line for snoods and traces.

Where are you getting a minimum of 25lb for snoods and 50lb for trace bodies from?

I take it you have not done any light estury or tidal river fishing for the likes of Flounders or Dabs with 1 or 2oz flat leads and lightweight rigs?

I also know of matchmen who use 8lb main (with a proper leader strength in relation to lead used) line when distance casting for flat fish at places like Sizewell in Suffolk.

They win alot of matches.

Some anglers also use light line rottom bottoms of 5 or 6lb using a special clip when fishing rough ground incase lead gets snagged.

Can also be used to tie a stop knot to stop sequins riding up a snood - the sequin is there to prevent worm baits or soft baits being blown up the snood during the cast and impact with the sea.

Maybe you do not use such a light line but others do as it does have its uses in sea angling.

I use 8lb line on a centrepin and a splitcane rod as a scratching setup, have taken huss to 14lb on it. My superlight tope gear has landed me 45lb tope, using 8lb "shock" leader from the braid mainline onto a 250lb rubbing leader. My turbot rigs are 12lb, my bass mainline between 6-12....I use 15-30lb for drifting wrecks, 40-50lb for conger and shark....that's heavy!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

:) charter boat fishing, minimum mainline, 30lb braid, 50lb for tope and conger. Anything lighter than 30lb is a g!t to untangle if there's not soo good guys aboard. I have seen 20lb braid being wasted as it is virtually impossible to untangle. Once cut it's useless. For traces i would not use less than 20lb amnesia for the same reason. no rotten bottoms, no booms. k i s. :)

i have one reel with 8lb mono stright through and that is for a 2 ounce drilled bullet, using live sand eel for the bass over the wrecks, just like the french do.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

And then there is Mullet fishing or waggler fishing for Garfish or Schoolies with light gear.
