I love Shimano reels, they are the dogs danly bits.

Have three match models, one specialist model and two baitrunners.

Dont own a stradic (yet) but have had a go with one.

It is a great all round reel that will last for years.

Go to TackleBargains and take a look at the Fladen ones. The ones I have are multi-bearing and had 4 spools each!

Only been able to use them the once, but they seem excellent value for money.

allibee - I sometimes wonder about that. Especially with the smaller ones of this reel, what are you getting for the amount of money you spend?

the stellas are a bit overpriced though newt, the stradics, gtms etc are a little more reasonable! i only use shimano and abu reels and i dont think they're expensive, and they never go wrong

Hi guys,

get a daiwa capricorn from Harleerod on US E bay. Fantastic top quality reel, retails in uk for 150 notes ( I have seen them in 2 uk shops at that price). I have had two off him at approx 38 quid and postage of 9 pound. Fantastic quality and an excellent product, far better than the stradic in my opinion. If its a bait feeder then you can't beat shimano or if wanting cheaper Okuma are great value.

If you are tempted to buy anything from the US ebay (good stuff, especially vintage) be warned that the British customs and excise will demand 17.5% VAT. This applies even if the goods are second-hand and they WILL open your parcel. I don't think there is a charge for stuff under 15 quid (not sure on the exact figure)I don't think there is a charge for goods from EU countries, if you have a few weeks to spare you could always trawl through this mammoth site: http://www.hmce.gov.uk/

If you pay anything at all it will be about 23.5% (VAT plus Duty) If its delivered by UPS they will always make the charge on goods to the value of about £30 and upwards. They are keen to make the charge because they will also make an exhorbitant 'admin' charge for handling the payment too. If the goods are delivered by the US Postal Service/Royal Mail or by Fed EX then its pot luck as to whether you will be charged at all. They only take the time to check the value of about 50% of the parcels arriving at whats known as the International Hub (at Heathrow) The rest will be allowed to slip through. The last three high value parcels that I've had, were all delivered without a request to pay VAT/Duty. They dont open parcels unless they have reason to believe that a parcel contains contraband goods or that there is an attempt to avoid Duty. In the sad times that we currently live in, there will also be random searches looking for drugs or firearms.
