Radovan Karadzic captured

Sorry I'm late back on this one.

How can we be so certain that these people were not killed in an internal war similar to one very close to home Northern Ireland. There is little doubt in my mind that in each stronghold what ever the religion or ethnic origin of the people were they killed the opposition.

The situation had been brewing for decades under Russia's rule and when that was relinquished the outcome was obvious.

And something you may or may not know is that the Islamic fighters were well armed and supported by Middle East factions and the Christian majority were fighting for their lives, make no mistake about that.

You and I might not have like methods employed by either side but once again I would state no war has ever been fought according to the rules now quoted, there is only one rule in war and that is to win whatever the cost and anyone who thinks differently is deluding themselves.

No need to apologise Ken You wernt Missing Much :D

First awnser Modern journalisum and our in later times the world wide web,

I didnt include Chechneya in my list But yes there is a horrendous insurgency going on there That is ging to rumble on for years unfourtuneatly.

If your last statement was completly true Afghanistan, Iraq and Chechneya would have been over in months Luckily The total almost biblical in its ferousity war that you speak of is rarely seen.

Someone once said to me "Dont worry It could be worse." So I didn't, and It was!

If we got out of Iraq it would be very short lived BUT there would then be a very large and very dangerous Shi'a Islamic dominate area, Iran and Iraq. Not a healthy proposition for anyone. Don't quite know how they will get out of that one.

I nicked the piece below as you can see factions within factions, if they are not beating three skittles out of us they will be beating it out of each other.

Shi'a Islam (Shī‘a Arabic: شيعة; šīʿa is collective; Shī‘i, šīʿi, is singular), is the second largest denomination of Islam, after Sunni Islam. Shi'a Muslims, though a minority in the Muslim world, constitute the majority of the populations in Iran, Azerbaijan, Bahrain and Iraq, as well as a plurality in Lebanon. They also constitute over 25% of the population in Yemen, Kuwait, Albania, Turkey and Pakistan. There are an estimated 130 to 190 million Shi'a, 10-15% of the world's Muslim population.[1]

The Shi'a adhere to the teachings of the final Prophet of Islam, Muhammad, and in contrast to other Muslims, believe that his family, the Ahl al-Bayt (the People of the House), including his descendants known as Imams, have special spiritual and political rule over the community.[2] Unlike Sunni Muslims, the Shi'a believe that Ali ibn Abi Talib, Muhammad's cousin and husband of his daughter, Fatimah, was the true successor to Muhammad who was appointed by God and his prophet, and thus reject the legitimacy of the first three Rashidun caliphs.[3]

The Shi'a faith is vast and inclusive of many different groups. There are various Shi'a theological beliefs, schools of jurisprudence, philosophical beliefs, and spiritual movements. Shi'a Islam embodies a completely independent system of religious interpretation and political authority in the Muslim world. The Shi'a identity emerged soon after the death of Muhammad, and Shi'a theology was formulated in the second century[4] and the first Shi'a governments and societies were established by the end of the third century.

Shi'a Islam is divided into three branches. The largest and best known are the Twelver (اثنا عشرية iṯnāʿašariyya) which forms a majority of the population in Iran, Azerbaijan, Bahrain and Iraq. The term Shi'a often refers to Twelver Shi'a only. Other smaller branches include the Ismaili and Zaidi, who dispute the Twelver lineage of Imams and beliefs.[5]

Afghanistan is a completely different story, it would be very difficult to find a period over the last 1000yrs when the country was at peace. A cross roads through which armies have marched from all compass points, it seems to thrive on combat. I loved the men I worked with fiercely independent and as tough as old boots with a good sense of humour. The whole area including Western Pakistan's tribal areas are controlled by war lords so you have ethnic and religious differences all trying to carve out an existence.

Going back to where we started I think this quote clearly defines my statement.

Tensions between the two communities had been simmering throughout the 20th century and had occasionally erupted into major violence, particularly during the First Balkan War, World War I and World War II. The Socialist government of Josip Broz Tito systematically repressed nationalist manifestations throughout Yugoslavia, seeking to ensure that no Yugoslav republic or nationality gained dominance over the others. In particular, the power of Serbia—the largest and most populous republic—was diluted by the establishment of autonomous governments in the province of Vojvodina in the north of Serbia and Kosovo in the south. Kosovo's borders did not precisely match the areas of ethnic Albanian settlement in Yugoslavia (significant numbers of Albanians were left in the Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia, while the far north of Kosovo remained largely ethnic Serbian). Nonetheless, the majority of its inhabitants since at least the 1921 census were Albanian.

The red sentence spells out why there was so much blood letting, Chester has a point but I realise it is a difficult pill to swallow.

i forgive everyone including me.

on another slight diversion there was a very interesting prog about cars bombs tonight did anyone see it?

the first was in america but it was a carriage bomb :D

i did note though a slip up in one part the chap mentioned the jews were terrorists (they started the modern "car" bombing against the brits) i wonder if that will be in the repeat as we are isreals "friends":D two of the bombers were interviewed and were proud of their accomplishment ,the "amusing" bit though was that the drivers were british deserters with jewish sympathies :o

its strange they class the surrounding states as supporting terrorism when they used it to get their own way in 1948?

He often does and it often is.
