I am in agreement that it is exactly this sort of behaviour that gets any form of fishing a bad name. At present it is those fishing with carp who are lumbered with them. It is these folks who are most likely to damage the fish because they have an incomplete grasp of the tactic. I know we laugh about them but there is a sadder side this.

I think that lure anglers do have to respect the needs of others in the same way. But surely wanging out a lure on some 60lb sea line would help to sort the original problem out. "Sorry mate didnt see you line". It would be best to be at one end with a line of morons in front of you. You could use the a sort of shove ha'penny set of rules to see how many lines you crossed.

I would nt take your best rod, but I would get hold of some real "Jam Jar glasses"

An alternative strategy would be to set between two of them and giggle alot. A couple of "I like fishing, do you" would help as well. Dont forget to have a conversation with one of the fish. Or ask their opinions on what you had for breakfast. Then contniually ask if they have caught a fish. That really does shift me along.

"Muddlin' along"

Had a similar problem a year or two back.

I`d baited my own near-bank river swim with hemp and a few free offerings, then set up my gear with the rod overhanging the water so that any fule on the opposite bank could see it. The custom is to leave the swim for at least an hour once baited so that the fish `get their heads down`. When I moved into position to fish, the harumphing from the `angler` on the opposite bank was plainly audible. But a "Can`t you see my fecking rod from there, mate ?" sorted it out!

Graham X:

It's not just (some) carpies..there is a particular type of fair weather "angler" (I use the term loosely) who come out when the sun is shining, pull out their spinning rods, and go thrashing along the estuary..

If I had a quid for every one of these anglers who has said to me:

"Mind if I spin through your swim, mate?"

..I'd have a few quid, that's for sure.

And just what would they think the outcome would be if they were to hook in to one? I can just hear it, "move over mate I've got one on". :mad:

Come anywhere near me matey and I'll put one on. :D

Dear Phil,

You said;

"My words to him were something like, aren't you carp anglers really, really, really considerate kind of people?**************"

Don't you attend the SAA meetings as the "Manchester Carp Group?" or similar?? And are Manchester carp anglers "considerate?"

Real Tree Man? Please. Anyone who is anyone knows that "Advantage Timber" is the garment camo simply to die to be seen in. Sling backs and floppy hats are of course optional extras.

Peter Waller said;

"That we feel a need to even discuss this subject is a pretty poor reflection on today's sporting behaviour really".

Fortunately, things are not yet that bad. But in cases when they are, they are bad enough.

Regards,

Lee.

Lee I was the only none carp fishing member of MCC and proud of it for a very long time. There are two of us now, Ron Clay being the other. What the Monk and the rest haven’t spotted (Well they're carp anglers, and none to bright are they?) is that we are subverting the group from within. By the time they realise what we’re up to, there’ll be loads of multi none carp species anglers in the group, and we’ll launch our attack and turn it into the Manchester Specialist Group.

Today Manchester Carp Group. Tomorrow? Well I can’t really discuss that on a public forum can I? But watch out, because the Anglers Revolutionary Specialist Empire (ARSE) is on the move, and may just be infiltrating your single species group at this very moment.
