Everything you could ever want to know about fluorocarbon pike traces is just over six minutes into this video.....

 

Great that fluoro stuff eh :) At least you can laugh your arse off when you get a bite off, the only thing he's missing now are Marlin and a mosh pit. Don't care much for his handling either.

Interesting to note that he 'upgrades to a metal trace' :rolleyes: That said, I can't see the difference between a bite-off like this, and a loss caused by a wire trace snapping because it was kinked etc - the end result is the same, so surely the methodolgy is largely irrelevent, as both instances would have occurred 'accidentally', no?

 

Hmmm --- common sense / prudence would seem to point to using a wire trace anyway, but maybe there's an element of 'When in Rome' etc ... fluorocarbon in use as a trace material seems pretty widespread in the US.

It does. That's why I use MUCH heavier braid than I would mono.

Its hardly the same thing. The difference is so far apart imo.

 

I was shown a fluoro trace someone took out of a pike a few days ago. A great big bloody 4play lure was attached to it with a length of 4-6lb mono mainline snapped off about 10 inches above the fluoro trace.

 

More education is needed than fanny'n about with latest wonder rigs getting pushed by manufacturers for a quick buck.

 

When in Rome, please :doh: I would say the UK is way ahead in rig safety & fish care.

So what was the bigger crime, the Fluro trace or the light main line? On pressured waters it can be common to find wire traces in Pike, so before preaching to the rest of the world about Pike care should we not get our own house in order because I think there are many anglers who think simply because they use a wire trace they are doing the right thing but overlook other stuff.

What, other than an expedition to Canada, would it take to convince you you are naive beyond two dimentional conversation? Unless you have a hint of common sense on the subject the thread is over. Like many in the UK you have some kind of mystical notion sport fish are something other than just fish.

 

Is there any sense someone even trying to tell you you may be wrong on this one?
