A bat and ball cost £1.10. If the bat costs £1 more than the ball then how much does the ball cost?

I thought they were protected therefore cannot be sold therefore the ball is 10p i told you it was £1.10 and kept the quid,do bats retrieve balls i would like to see that

It's obvious to me too that it's a simultaneous equation type problem. The more interesting question is why £1 and 10p are the obvious and intuitive (wrong) answers. I wonder if you could rephrase the question in a way that makes people jump to the right conclusion?
