If you think the Conservatives are bad, Libertarians are just plain disgusting

I'm not keen on social authoritarians, big government or redistributive taxation for the sake of it. On the other hand, I do believe in socialised healthcare and education and social security as a safety net, so it looks as if I'm stuck with our various domestic worms

I don't know what you mean by big government. It's because of "little government" that there is a constant battle in to keep Creationism out of public schools in the USA. This is because public schools are funded from local taxes and because they pay the piper they think they should be calling the tune.

 

I prefer big government me. I'll ask you nicely once, if that's doesn't get results then i'll hit you where it hurts, right in the pocket with a big tax.

 

Recycling is an example. I don't know why people can't get the concept of cardboard, plastic bottles and tin cans in one bin, everything else in the other. I'd have £1,000 off them every time they got it wrong, they would soon get the message.

 

Same with speeding, first time 3 points and a fine. Second time you lose your license for 5 years, no ifs, no buts. Folks might then get the message that speeding is socially unacceptable.

By "big government", I mean the state raising more taxes, spending more money, employing more people and sticking its snout into more places than is strictly necessary.

Whats recycling for ? Certainly not for saving the planet

To be honest, I wouldn't particularly want to follow the model of any of the Scandinavian countries. I'm not sure that quitting the EU necessitates adopting a Nordic model of Social Democracy, though.
