Well, it is for certain publications:

(and then muppets like me help them out by posting links to it - Doh!)

Ha! And what a manky looking specimen.

There were a few places I fished as a kid where the sticklebacks drove you nuts. Try to fish a small worm and you'd end up catching two of the bloody things, one on each end.

If the record is 4 drams and his was 3, it's something of a specimen.

And Steve, it's not very polite to pass judgement on the angler ;)

I certainly wouldn't suggest he looks like the kind of chap who would normally weigh things in eighths of an ounce...

On my rounds i was asked to whitness the weight of a fish as an algler thought he had broken a record ,i asked him for the scales bjt he didnt have anything so i told him i would pop home for the avons but could i have a peek to see which ones i would need.

Anyway much pulling of hoofing great net and lo and behold there was a gudgeon in the corner ,i popped home and got the kitchen scales

Anyway the club record was open to anything over 2 ounces ,this weighed 2and a quarter ounces ,he lost out someone caught a 2oz 6 dram one later in the river (do people still use the old scales as the norm?) anyway i had a record fish kn my hand for a while!

Its probably harder to break a small fish record i guess ,few people fish for them and fewer weigh them

A thread like this, we must agree, brings back memories. But I have to ask, when was the last time you saw gudgeon, minnow or stickies in the edges or reeds. Yes they used to get in the way when I was younger, but do you know what, I would be glad to catch a few today. Just to know they are still there... BTW as a child, gudgeon made great & sucessful live bait, for perch & medium pike....Well, huge in my childs eyes at about 3 - 6lb.

Fishing is the most peaceful & solitary group activity a going. Every watewr is different every day, thanks for that as same would be boring....
