Can anyone tell me the title of the song sung over the advert for Cancer Research UK....

(You'll remember me

when the west wind moves

among the fields of barley).

also....

[something] dawn what's that flower you have on?

Could it be a faded rose from days gone by?

And did I hear you say,

something that I couldn't hear....

etc!

The first song is, indeed Sting's 'Fields Of Gold', sung by the wonderful Eva Cassidy who sadly passed away from cancer while in her 30's. It's from the 'Songbird' album, which is well worth its best-seller status.

The second song is 'Delta Dawn', which was a hit for Helen Reddy and written by Alex Harvey and Larry Collins.

Wordbender,

Would that be the "sensational" Alex Harvey?

Don't remember the song though.

Some while ago, one of our members gave an address for a site which published the title and artist of songs used on current advertising campaigns. Have it saved on my machine at home if anybody wants it.

Wouldn't have thought so, mate - not his style at all! You never know, though.

As Terry said it's Delta Dawn, a country standard that was a mega hit for Tanya Tucker and since much covered. I didn't realise who wrote it though.

The chorus continues ".....And did I hear you say, he'll be meeting you here today, to take you to that mansion in the sky".

It's a brilliant tune, with the poignant lyrics telling of a jilted girl who's still waiting for her lover to return.
