Sports Direct Fishing Tackle

Recommended Posts

Whilst in my local sports direct store today ,I heard over the tannoy that they now had a good selection of fishing gear in store.

I briskly walked off in pursuit of the fishing section.

Utter disappointment when i found it , Cheap cheap products , Total waste of time to MOST people i think .

Next time you are in 1 of these stores guys have a look , I would like to hear other anglers opinion

of what sports direct call quality fishing tackle ........... :hammer:

I heard the same announcement, and it took some searching to find the very small display. It seems to be gear badged by Dunlop, but only a few prepackaged kits. There are a few anciliary bits, but it does not look top of the range, but perfectly usuable. Got some hooklengths that didn't let me down. Be interested if anyone else has tested it. Online seems to have a fairly big range.

The two best times to go fishing are when it's raining and when it's not

I agree that it is cheap crap that they are selling - even I Robson Green is backing some if it - the reels are tacky the rods look like a telephone mast and hooks etc are cheep and flimsy ( opens up a pack of carp rigs and hook bent with little effort

I bet they still catch fish.

I bet the caught fish dont get put back.

I have looked at these sets plus the ones in B&M, Lidl ones, the ones in The range and the ones by Browning for sale in Sainsbury.

All utter sh!t - Avanti / Dragon carp sell better and their stuff is mainly crap.

There is a market for this stuff though and it must be good as it all sells out to short haired people wearing tracksuits or leather jackets or both.

Czesc, I'll get my coat.

My mate works in sports direct and his boss asked me to write a article for his staff on the basics of it all so they have a rough idea what they are talking about. After writing a fairly decent and informative article for him, He gave me 50£ store credit, I walked in and gave him the report and had a browse around with him, after i had the credit voucher in my hand, i gave him my honest opinion of the stock and it was utter rubbish for the most part. Cheap enough but for a reason. They had a few bits i thought were alright, had a few decent lures and floats but thats about it.

Personal Bests:

Carp: 18 1/2Lbs

Barbel: 5Lbs

Chub: 3LBS

Roach: 3 1/2LBs

Bream: 8LBs

Tench: 4LBs

Dace: 1LB

Perch: 2lbs

Angel Shark: 45LBs

I thought all you guys would think the same as i do

Its a shame as people new to angling will be caught out by these poor cheap

products.

Any new anglers reading this post take note

Your best bet for new gear is to go with an experienced angler

to the local fishing tackle shop ,or ask someone for help!!!!!!!

When I were a lad there was just two places to buy tackle. Cheap and cheerful from woolworths or one of the many local tackle shops. Today both have gone and sadly with the demise of all those tackle shops we are left with mostly cheap imported **** .......it is no surprise that a company that revels in selling cheap trainers and clothes sells cheap tackle. Even woolworths tackle was better than some of the alarming tack available in supermarkets. Please keep the remaining tackle shops alive......

I think you will find that most of the good stuff is also imported and the stuff that is made in UK is not made but ASSEMBLED using imported parts.
