Flavour Flavour Flavour + a few fish

Went for my first evening session of this year last night.

I used a waggler I found two nights before while walking round that has been adapted with an Isotope glued in as an insert tip.

4lb main line, 2.6lb hooklength and started with an 18 but switched (once it got dark) to a 16 hook.

Bait was double red maggot when It was light and double white maggot once it got dark flavoured with Braddocks Floral Surprise.

I tried singles and doubles in red, white, bronze, white/bronze, white/red etc etc until I found what the fish wanted.

The majority of fish caught were 10oz to a pound Rudd with a few skimmers, roach, perch, a 5lb Barbel and two Crucians, one being a PB at 3lb (its the biggest one I have ever seen that was not on TV).

It was a monster and fought like stink in the pitch black!!!!!!!!

I was also smashed three times.

Its my first time using Braddocks Floral surprise and I was impressed.

I was catching rudd on the drop in the pitch black and I am sure they homed in on the smell/taste as the maggots dropped through the water.

Alot of anglers think flavours are a gimmick and wont even try a flavour.

In my opinon (I have no link whatsoever with Braddocks but tried their products after reading Steve Burke and others posts) braddocks make the best range of flavours around. I also use perch magic, roach magic, mega tumeric and sugar and spice - ALL WORK WELL

I am so confident with them that this morning I have received bottles of : 'Sweet and Sour surprise' which I will use during my spring charity matches, 'Tench magic' - speaks for itself, 'Pungent surprise' and 'Mulberry plus' both of which will be used for my carping sessions. I ordered them yesterday.

The way I see it is that I would get bored of the same old flavour food over and over

and the flavours also cover up my own smell on the bait.

It also means my bait is different to all the anglers I am fishing against during a match or when pleasure fishing.

Do yourself a favour and try a braddocks flavour

LOL - if you want some great flavors that I'm certain haven't already blown on UK fish,

Don't be put off by the word 'carp' in many of the flavor names. They just happen to be the main US fish where flavors are used.

Nice catch.

RE: the "I was also smashed three times", at what point did you consider stepping up your tackle? You have to be careful admitting such things, I've seen posts from people (not me) claiming they've never been broken by a fish.

I started by using an 18 mustad barbless maggot eyed with 0.10mm 2.6lb ultima xt7

This set up was fine when it was light.

I was smashed three times using this set up.

The third time being just after dark.

I then had trouble tying on a hook, even with a headlight.

So I switched to a 16 drennan super specialist with 0.16mm 2.6lb drennan hook tie.

PLEASE NOTE : the lines had the same breaking strain but very different diameters.

Also the thicker hook tie is so much easier to tie at night and streches.

I did not mind using thicker line and a size bigger and heavier hook as it was dark.

I was smashed by double figure carp - they have a liking for maggots at the water.

Its hard enought stopping them on carp gear let alone match tackle.

They are all fighting fit pure muscle carp without boilie bellies!

All three smashes happened on the drop and were very savage takes.

The carp were up in the water competing with a shoul of very hungry rudd.

As far as I am concerned my rig was balanced and the weaker hooklength done its job - if it had not one of them carp would of had to pull the float and X amount of line around until the barbless hook fell out.

RUDD:

Braddocks Floral Surprise......

Crucians, one being a PB at 3lb

Nice one RUDD !

I have no doubt about the value of Archie's flavours - one of the first things I noticed was that Crucian bites were pretty positive when using "Tench Magic" - in contrast to the very tentative bites that Crucians often give.

Of course, one has to get all the other things right, location, stealth, watercraft, right tackle, right feeding etc, but Archie's flavours do seem to give an edge.
