I do update regularly but still had to activate my Firewall and download the secutity patch.

Best all check your systems unless you are sure.

Unfortunately I picked up the beast. I did manage to download the patch from M$ and a removal tool from symantec - which cleaned my system. Perhaps I should get the upgrades as a matter of course, would have saved me wasting a couple of hours.

Newt, Checked for missing updates and that number isnt shown for my machine, (did just update what was there anywway!) I guess it not being shown means that I have it ?? I do update pretty regularly.

Do you know if this affects Win98 OS's?

 

I run updates fairly often so hopefully I'm OK anyway.

 

It would be nice to know as I have several Win98 friends who know less than me about viri et all

98 and me are not affected, wich is really handy, as i got caught by this beast, all i did was turn off zone alarm for a second and that was that, no time to get the fix, so this is what id did.

 

unpluged the cable modem, backed everything up, formated the drive, installed ME, then downloaded zone alarm, then installed XP, this is a last resort but the worm didnt give me any time to do anything, worked for me, safe and sound now.

Riley if you go to the Windows updates page you can view your installation history, in the left hand dropdown, see if you have.

Thanks for posting this Newt... 5 of the Pc's in the office went down just after you had posted this so.. saved us a bit of time

 

BTW I know everyone is saying that any pc with ME on it is ok, but we had 1 that was also infected with the worm.
