A new rod.

As some of you might recall, I managed to break my favourite spinning rod over the summer.

Dave (Sportsman) kindly offered to build me a new one and I decided to double up on the bits and have a go at building one for myself.

 

Thanks to a few top tips from Dave and a few YouTube tutorials, I've now finished my rod and am sufficiently impressed with the results that I've decided to build two more - one lighter and one heavier than the one I've just built.

 

 

I have no fancy rod building kit and my previous rod building experience is limited to rebuilding the handle of one of my dad’s ledgering rods and field repairs on a few travel rods with broken guides.

Oh yes, and I sit on my backside in an office for a living so I bring no special skills to the task from the world of work.

 

 

As all the bits for the second build have now arrived, I'm quite happy to take photo's along the way and either show how easy the process of building your own rod from scratch is or giving those of you (like Dave) who are experienced in such things a good laugh at my ineptitude.

 

 

Is anyone interested in seeing how it goes ?

Noted. There's a few things that I learned as I was going along and a few more that I did whilst building the first one that got noted as "things to do differently" so I'll happily post those.

 

It would be nice if the more experienced guys chipped in along the way too.

No worries Dave. With the cold snap and now the rain, the season for chasing chub on lures is over for this year so there's no rush.

Try not to laugh too hard at my efforts...

I think a lot of people would like to follow the rod build Ken. We don't see a lot of 'building stuff' threads, I find them really interesting.

Right. I've just built most of the handle on the first one and taken photo's at each stage.

I need to go and work out how I'm going to do the foregrip and at some point, I'll start a seperate thread and post the pictures into it.
