Death of Freeserve

Den, his problem has been with the payments for the service.

Firstly, they took too much money on a Direct Debit.

After they agreed to refund the difference, they sent him "overdue account" letters, although he was paying by Direct Debit.

Then they suspended his service, due to "outstanding debt".

They finally confessed they had got their account numbers mixed up.

But, three weeks ago he received another "overdue account" letter.

He has no complaints about the service/system, just the admin.

Ah! yes, there were some hiccups early on, and even now they only seem to take the money every other month.

Makes my wife mad, she "does the books" and likes to keep every thing up to date.

They (Tiscali) have just offered me "as a valued customer" a reduced rate on my 512 BB, down from £26.99 a month to £19.99 a month.

Will be interesting to see how much is deducted from my bank next month :D

As I said before, Fast, reliable, anytime of day, and at £19.99 I am happy :D:D

If that was a woman, you would be bloody delirious. :D:D:D:D

I am always suspicious when I,m offered the chance to pay less for a service.

Where is the catch ?

I think Tiscali have realised that they have to drop their charges to compete with the rest. There are several round about that price, I think.

I've finally resorted to telephoning Wanadoo, and got this advice:

Click Start then Run

Enter 'Netsh int ip reset c:/resetlog.txt' and the computer should be sorted. Looks OK so far....

You meet all kinds of animal on the riverbank.

Pangolin - you were lucky to get a tech on the phone with some good sense and knowledge.

Win2K/XP/2003 will not allow you to remove and reinstall TCP/IP which would be the recommended 'fix' for this problem with older OS versions. Next best and usually effective is that rather strange command string that forces the netsh utility to reset TCP/IP back to the original (as set at install time) values.

Have you opened c:resetlog.txt to see what all was done? Notepad works for that since it's a simple text file.

Peter:

I have been with Demon for several years. No problems of any sort. Maybe not so cheap as some but everything runs smoothly

I'll second that. Demon are top notch, AND you get a fixed IP address from Demon.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))
