Yep a little. I've got both my desktop and lappy wirelessly connected to a wireless router which also can act as a wireless print server for the lappy providing the desktop is switched on too.

If I bought a combined wireless router/broadand modem and hooked it up to the PC on a 10/100 wired LAN.

Could I acces the Internet on a Laptop or other PC wirelessly without the PC being switched on?

If I understand your question then yes. The router handles the traffic so if it is powered on and connected, neither PC is using the other one to reach the internet.

And if chippy had his printer connected to router via a 'print server' then it would work with either PC without the other PC being on.

A number of Mobile phones have built in modems - I often connnect to the Internet when I'm out and about through an Infa-Red connection between the mobile phone and the laptop - or more often my ipaq pda.

Have sat with pda at side of a loch one Saturday a couple of weeks back browsing the Internet, and talking to pals in the US with Instant Messenger.
