SP2 ?

I have downloaded Windows XP - KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe.

Upon hitting "Run" absolutely nothing happened, apart from a MSDOS shortcut appearing on my desktop.

On double-clicking this icon I get a brief flash of what looks like a MSDOS window, and then nothing!

If I go into safe mode the system is still showing XP-SP1.

Not a large result for over 12 hours of downloading, or am I missing something ?

The Older I get .. The better I was.

Nope. Not missing anything. It just didn't want to run for some reason.

Probably your best bet at this point is to get one of the SP2 CDs and try with that.

Not sure about the UK but some of the larger US chain office supply places have copies they are giving away. Target, Office Max, and a few others.

I have XP Home Edition on my laptop but ME on my desktop. I installed XP Pro on a spare hard drive today and downloaded SP2 (266mb) but it will not let me install SP2, it says my product key is not kosher. Any ideas what I should do now apart from BUYING XP and giving Bill some more of my money? To date I have paid good cash money for:

DOS 6.2

Windows 3.1

Windows ME

XP Home Edition

How much more of my money does he want?

Always the same story Dan! MS bring out something new and everyone wants to knock it!! Yes some people will have problems, but nothing to worry about I reckon yet?

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))
