Me, being an inverted tackle snob, sticks to Shakespeare and Drennan, plus a tad of aged Swedish made ABU and tired Winfield stuff, all crammed into my blue, plastic tackle box, wouldn't be seen dead using Fox stuff!!

 

All in all, not at at all sure how the association with Zebco will go down with Fox's bank-side credibility.

I seem to remember reading an article a few months back about Zebco employing a management consultant to grow their business in the UK. It would appear that acquisitions may be the route they plan to take.

 

My thoughts are that it should not effect the quality of Fox gear (hopefully) as what would be the point of buting a "prestige" label and down grading the quality of its merchandise? They own enough other tackle companies without the kudos of Fox to put out cheaper goods. I would have thought acquiring Fox is just trying to cut a slice of the high mark up pie, I would have thought they would be keen to keep the quality high and allow the brand to stand very seperate from Zebco and their other brands.

 

As far as I know they do not have a "Carp" brand in their portfolio, from a business point of view it looks like a very good way to get in to the Carp business. I would imagine it would be hard to launch a new successful Carp brand and attain the reputation of a Fox or Korda so the best route is to purchase them outright. Plus having Fox might open more doors to launch some of their other brands in the UK such as the Black Cat range. All your Carp and cat needs under one umbrella and sitting side by side in your local tackle shop :-)

I have never really thought of Fox as a prestige brand, but do think of them (rods, mainly) as very good tackle.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Having looked through the Zebco catalogue, I can't say much of it inspired me as a UK angler. Except, for maybe the Sponge Bob Square Pants tackle set. That would really pee off the tackle tarts. :D

Maybe "prestige" was the wrong word but along with Korda they are the go to brand for many Carp anglers and as Anderoo pointed out they are making good in roads in to predator market especialy in the lure field. Not sure what their market share is but most tackle shops I visit are dominated by their gear.

Must remember that Fox have been around for quite some time now. In fact im sure they had and advert in the very first Carp World magazine, which is about 25yrs old.

 

Some of their equipment is very good and quite desirable.....especially the older gear. Reading this got me thinking about how much I own.

 

3 Fox 1lb specialists, 2 of which have not been opened lol

Mk1 Quattro Pod + a prototype of the Quattro

Various swingers, buzz bars and sticks

Euro pod

Bits of luggage

St and Sx bite alarms in the loft

 

Probably more hidden about the place.
