Do I hold grudges too long?

go to japan and you will not find a friendlier race!

LOL. You are confusing polite with friendly.

I know that we're all supposed to be friends now, etc. etc. but from a purely personal point of view (having known in my younger days some old soldiers who had been prisoners of war of the Japanese) I prefer to avoid if possible anything made in Japan out of respect to those few surviving veterans who suffered at their hands.

As I understand it, the code of Bushido allowed no consideration or respect to be shown to a defeated enemy who had surrendered. Their rules, not ours.

Newt, I don't think so, for pretty much the same reasons DavyR gives.

I resist anything Israeli for the simple reason that when my father was in Palestine in the early 50's, the Stern Gang were murdering British soldiers, who were there as peace keepers. The Stern Gang's membership included many of the leading Israeli politicians of the last 40 years - including at least 3 past presidents.

Why should I support them?

I fail to see the logic of hateing people for something that their grandparents (or even great grandparents) did 60 years ago.

If you happen to meet a Japanese, ask yourself what has that individual ever done to you or yours.

If people are agrieved with Israel and chose to boycot their goods and services then fair enough. The Israeli's are (irony of irony's) abusing people now and as they still have conscription, almost every citizen of the country is part and parcel of that abuse. That isn't true of Japan or Germany so give it a rest.

Oh yes. The American car industry is in trouble because they have made crap cars for the last 30 years. Ok, so they are now slowly improving but the fact that so many Japanese cars are sold in the US despite trade limitations and post war attitudes really says something about the home grown products on offer.

Holding grudges is bad for the soul. Set your grudges free. Damaged bitter souls won't get into heaven.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

They never stopped - and if Darwin's theory had been allowed to develop, there wouldn't have been an Israel in the first place.

Who said anything about hating anybody? Boycotting the purchase of goods or refusing to holiday in a place on ethical, moral, political or historical grounds needn't involve hate, or indeed disrespect towards individuals from those countries when they are visiting your own.

It's longer than 30 years IMO. I don't think they have made a decent car since the Chrysler Airflow, AND it was crap, but the Art Deco styling was pretty cool.

Live and let live I say, life is just too short to hold grudges.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

my family lost almost a whole generation of lads to the germans and japanes both fighting in europe and later burma!

both in the army and navy! they bombed my grandmother out of her house in london when she was pregnant with triplets! she lost the 2 boys

with one surviver (my mother) born very premature! obviously threw the shock of a bomb tearing off half her house and completly destroying

4 houses to the left of hers! and killing 8 peaple including her brother

that had just returned from holland and was on leave from the cameroon rifles at the time (how unlucky is that)

but this is th 21st century and all that is history! and in my view that is where it should stay!

very sobering when you see thes old chaps go over to japan and germany and shake hands with the former enemy! the peaple that wer

actualy ther! watching ther friends blown to bits under morter fire! or ripped to shreds under a heavy machine gun!

all this i hate em becouse we went to war with them is rubbish and very childish to say the least! if the old chaps can put out the hand off friendship then why cant you! you that wasnt even born at the time?

newt! they ar very polite true! but also ther house is your house!

and they dont half know how to drink and have a good time! if they say they like you they actualy like you and mean it (obviously cant generalise to much and can only talk from expeirince)

when ther your friend they ar your friend for life!

you been over ther newt?

perhaps i should avoid american product becouse of the civil war?

or that the US has a lunatic in power that will no doubt cost us more british lives!

just a thought mate!
