I use braid on my pins (Fireline) in 4lb and 8lb B/S. No cons as far as I'm concerned, mends well, floats - so great pick up when striking at distance. Not great for Wallis Casting with - but then I hardly ever need to...

I've loaded my Aventa with 4lb braid, but only used it once since, on a windy little river without long trots.

I didn't have any problems, but I'm still waiting to see how well it mends when 'snaked' by the current over a distance, or how well it picks up on the strike at distance (of which I have high hopes).

Incidentally, I've felt it wise to use a leader of some 2/3 metres of mono to provide a cushion when striking and playing fish.

maybe i'll step down to 4 or 6lb then, i have some 6lb fireline on my suveran i hardly use. this is my first real go at fishing with a 'pin, so excuse the stupid questions. how much line do you usually spool up with? something like 50 or 75 yards?

30 - 50 yards is enough.

Put too much line on the spool and it beds in, so you don't get a smooth unspooling as the current turns the reel over.

Always go for as little line as you think that are going to need.

thanks chris, 8lb powerpro it is then :)

I don't know if i have been dreaming it, but can't you get Power Pro in 4 and 6lb ?

I am going to get some 6lb if you can. If 8lb Power Pro is the same diameter as 1lb mono then 6lb must be even thinner. It might be "invisible" :o

Tigger.

i use 8lb power pro ~1-2lb mono dia with 50 mtrs on the spool,i also use 50mtrs of the same in one of my abu 506's and a mitchell 410.i get good line pick up even at distance.i have a loop tied at the end of the line and either a loop to loop connected hooklink ( ready tied :o ) or via a tiny swivel to a hooklink.

i was asked recently what i would do if a fish bolted off down river with only having such a small amount of line on my reel,if it runs and i reach the end on my spool ? my reply was run after it of course ! ,as for cons of using braid on my centre-pin ,well wallis cast has gone to pot ! not sure why ! other casts are ok ,guess it'll take a bit of practice to get it right again not that i was that great at wallis casting anyway it used to be so much easier when i was younger.but since returning to using a centre-pin in the last six years its just seems my co-ordination is crap.one other thing to consider is the type of eyes used on your rod if they're up to being used with braid, but apart from that i carn't think of any con's to using braid on a centre-pin.
