Hi domo and welcome.

Hmmmm - if you will be fishing in Windermere, the area around any warm springs feeding the lake will be good. If you can't locate such areas, the fish may tend to be holding in deeper water where conditions are more stable so 40-50 feet might be a good depth.

Otherwise, some specifics about the venue would be helpful to us.

If you mention the name of the lake, someone here might have fished it recently. The more information you can give us, the better the answers will be (apart from Chesters ;) ). How big are the carp in the pond? Any bans that you know of?

Hey Domo, with only that info u supplied its hard to say more than stick to the tried and tested cold water methods.

If its a small pond as you say, then spend a while checking out the water before you set up. Look for any signs of fishy activity eg. bubbling, rolling, coloured water, topping fish and try a nice visual bait in that area. U could do far worse than a single grain of corn on the float or bomb and literally 2 or 3 grains loose fed around it. Don't be tempted to overfeed at this time of year - rely on that nice yellow colour and aroma to stir em up. Patience is the key here. If they are'nt biting don't keep chucking corn in!!! If they are there you'll soon know! Being a small pond try all the likely looking spots - u may just find a few fish!

If there are no signs of life at all then try any old, dead reed beds or around snags and an island if there are any.

Hope this helps matey!

can u give me some tips for carp fishing in the cold on monday

(england) :)

If you are fishing a commercial then a small swimfeeder filled with maggots is a very good method in the cold weather. And ignore the rule of casting to the same spot every cast. Carp are very tightly shoaled this time of year so cast the feeder around your peg untill you get a bite. I would leave it 10-15 mins before recasting or 20mins if you are getting line bites.

If you are fishing for the larger fish then a single hookbait or snowman can be brilliant in the colder weather.

You can try using a PVA stick of dryish groundbait or even liquidised bread. Recast every hour to a different area. Leave your lines slack and fish for linebites. When you start getting twitches then bring your bait closer in every 20 mins or so untill you find them.

Hope some of this helps
