I know no more than you, Chris. Both weeklies have picked up on it and are investigating.

That's a wondeful fish to bring the season to a close. Let's hope it wasn't fluked on a boilie! It must have looked massive - my biggest is 3 1/4lb and that looked huge, but this is in a different class :o

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

That's the great thing about Perch, it could literally be anywhere. I'll guess a carp water where they're largely ingored and get fat on silver fish, but I'm really hoping it's from a river (the Thames near where I live please!)

A record perch could come from almost any type of water. Certainly some rivers hold big perch, especially where there are also crayfish. Some trout waters hold monsters - but these ran rarely be fished at the right time of year without restrictions.

I've long predicted that the most likely venues are commercial carp waters. These often hold lots of stunted silver fish for the perch to grow fat on. Frequently there aren't that many perch to begin with as they're not often stocked deliberately, and spawning sites may well not be available in the early years of the water. Of course little competition + stacks of food = big fish! Additionally, few anglers fish such waters for perch, that like all predators thrive on neglect.

What makes it worse is that there are often restrictions on this sort of venue that make it difficult to catch the big perch. In particular live/deadbaits may not be permitted, and anglers may not be allowed to fish at dawn, and more particularly, at dusk - usually the best time in winter/spring. I catch more perch at this time of the year on these waters in the half an hour either side of sunset than the whole of the rest of the day put together.

There are a huge number of such waters about. Catch one at the right time and you make history........ :)
