Boilies and bolt rigs for big chub

Sorry Tigger,

I meant to say, that all of the Chub were around 2 feet long and only varied in their girth, so the lighter they are the more sleeker they look.

Maybe the frame of these Chub have reached an optimum length and the only way they get bigger is by expanding in girth ?

  • 3 weeks later...

And after a break from fishing for 6 months because off the death of my good friend Simon King I went back to the Old River at least a mile from where we had caught all our big Chub.

Another friend had caught a 15+ Barbel the day before and I said I would come down and have a chat, but having got there I decided to fish ?

I got out the same rods that I had put away in February, changed the hooklink and hook, cast up-stream with just enough lead to hold bottom and sat back to await darkness.

An old friend rang me to enquire as to how I was doing, as I was talking to him, the line going upstream went very slack and I struck into a fish, straight away I knew I was into a lump, but not the Barbel I was after.

A short fight, a huge Chub lay at the bottom of my landing net, I was still holding the phone ?

So it had taken me half an hour to set up, cast out, get a bite and catch a huge Chub.

This one was 8lbs 9ozs and I'm sure my mate was smiling down on me, not that he believed in that sort of thing ?

Thankyou lads,

I have not made up my mind whether I will go back after the Chub again this winter ?

It could be after this mild summer, that the Chub will have piled on the weight, I would like to think one of those huge fish will claim the record back from a still water fish ?

Chub are a river fish and as such the record should be held by a genuine river fish.

Another amazing chub, huge congrats Bob! I still haven't properly replied to this topic, I will get round to it soon, I have quite a few questions!

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

I think you'd be mad not to go after them, looking at your history of catching large chub I reckon you might get the new record...go for it Bob !
