Knife sharpening

I have a chinese "lansky" clone but its crap the jaws had to be modded to stop the blade moving but after that it works ok ,i cannot be arsed to make knives razor sharp as the mrs would get deeper cuts if she had a fit playing with one so they are sharp enough to be used but nothing more.

gravediggermax an american detectorists uses a brand called wicked edge but far out of my pocket for mere home use ,tried normal stones but make knives blunter as i dont have the patience nor skill to use one correctly

Belt sanders seem to be gaining popularity with a leather belt and a very fine polishing abrasive slurry to finish.

My grandad was a joiner, and used to keeping his tools sharp. I reckon he could have put an edge on a cucumber

Oh I'm bloody good at sharpening knives.....I regularly sharpen my friends knives and also their kitchen knives!

I don't mind doing it for them! Lol

But can't be bothered to do it on my own kitchen knives!

A straight razor will take me about a week to re bevel, hone and polish before stropping. But then it can literally "pop" hairs off your arm....far too fine an edge for kitchen work! Lol

 

Might try a cheaper electric sharpener.

I have one of these, it's a bit old now so only useful for finishing but it was a very effective sharpener for about 4 years;

that's one of the ones I have...good for a very gentle finishing bit because of the action and the way its used it can cause blade chipping on fine edges
