i run the same engine as ian on my wee seatrooper

mariner 60hp bigfoot 2 stroke

i get about 5 mpg at 27mph, slightly more if i have to throttle back if it's choppy, which is most of the time these days :(:angry:

my mate has just changed from a yamaha 50hp 4 stroke to a 75hp mercury 2 stroke and nearly had a stroke himself after it's maiden voyage when he did in a 33 litre tank in the same running about he used to do 1/2 a tank in with the yam :headhurt:

Unbearable, isn't it? The suffering of strangers, the agony of friends. There is a secret song at the center of the world, and its sound is like razors through flesh.

My friends Orkney Strikeliner (16 ft) with Mariner/Mercury 20HP 2-stroke.

Two persons and gear on board.

0.85L/N mile or 2.25 gallons/hr@12 knots.

Equates to 5.3 N/miles per gallon.

Seems a bit heavy on the fuel,anyone out there with a similar outfit for comparison?

Agree with Ian Burrett, cannot believe that anyone is getting 25 mpg from an outboard engine on the set-up stated.

Safety habits last a lifetime.

In order recent-oldest;

Cygnus Cyclone Patrol 26 ft, 250hp Volvo to SS Duo prop leg drive 3 gallons per hour 18-20 knots.

FBM 27 Aluminium, 190hp sabre to shaft. 2.5 - 3 gallons per hour 16-18 knots

Black Marlin 23 ft. BMW 50hp shaft. not sure had it for 1.5 years went out quite a lot and put £20 diesel in it! 6 knots.

Warrior 165 16ft, Yamaha 70 hp (htpl or something like 2 stroke oil injection) cost was too much to worry about. remember burning £60 of petrol chasing bass around the solent once went from cowes to needles, which is about 10 miles so about 2 gallons per mile

16ft open bass boat, suzuki 15 2 stroke miles and miles on a tank!

14ft open pram dingy, no outboard but rowing against the tide is hard work :blink:
