pet shops

Depends, in most pet stores (mainly the big animal feed supply ones) you can get dog biscuits, halibut pellets, low oil pellets, trout pellets and maize.

In others you can often get things like hemp, parti blend, hemp pellets, flavoured pellets (strawberry etc) etc....

Much cheaper if you're buying in bulk.

what fishing baits can you get from pet shops?

Kittens, puppies, hamsters, guinea pigs, all good pike baits. :roll1::whistling:

There probably isn't much from the pet stores that isn't worth a crack for bait. All seeds and pulses are worth a go (make sure they're cooked). Any pellet or biscuit is worth a go. There are dozens of grubs and bugs on offer; all of which will appeal to something. I would imagine that just about everything is viable, with the exception of chocolate treats or specialised foodstuffs.

What's wrong with chocolate treats? They're full of food value aren't they?

There probably isn't anything wrong with it. I don't know if the chemicals contained in chocolate are in any way harmful to fish but I just don't really see chocolate as a bait. Carp might like it all the same. It's sweet, fairly nondescript, fatty etc. Give it a try then and fill us in on the results.

Guest Brumagem Phil

A word of caution. Don't do as I do and spend 100 quid on sacks and sacks of lovely bait and then spend the first weeks of the season fishing on the top with a loaf of bread! :(:(:(

Phil - unless you are after REALLY BIG fish, a loaf of bread might be too much. Have you tried using smaller pieces?
