  1. What about Sherwood Forest Holiday Park, I went there a few years ago with a few members of my old fishing club. On the site is the Sherwood Forest Fishery which is in easy walking distance from all areas of the park. There is 5 lakes in all. We fished the open on the big lake which is run on the weekends, we asked around and the warden was happy to give us advise on what to use. Tho they werent very happy that we took top 3 and i won the junior section ahead of the locals We plesured fished for 2 days hopping aroun the other 4 pools. Caught well on them all really, had some nice carp. And there is also a small river going through the park called the river Maun i think, well it was free fishing anyroad. I did some trotting on there wth light gear and caught some nice little chub, roach, rudd and perch.
  2. My favourite rule is no pellets except the ones they sell. They go on about theres are better and all that, but they are the same ones my local tackle shop sells. Well except for the prce, when they charge double the price
  3. Im fishing my clubs day out on 27th September up there and wandered if anyone had any advice or tips. Ive checked out there website but doesent give you a great deal of info just odd bits and wandered if anyone had fished it. We'll be fishing the Rock Pool. Theres quite a few rules in place on the fishery so my usually tactics are out the window so i thought about going back to my old method of meat and corn. Any tips will be greatfull and thanks in advance
  4. Yeh the Kamasan Animal hooks are very strong(landed 12lb carp on size 20 other week ), been usin the for past few years and havent had one straightened yet, Its only hooks i use, have 2 each of each size in me box ready. I know lot of other people who swear by them and its all they use aswell. Ive had no trouble on clear waters with them, i fished clear lake the other week and catchin 1 a chuck on size 14.
  5. I use pole most of the time and i think best way to strike is sideways, ive found i get better hooking and also doin this usually means the fish dont dart forwards and bottom the elastic quickly and pull the hook or break you. Once hooked if it takes off i slam about 12 inches of pole under water and i found when doing this the fish comes back to you as the elastic pulls back the fish. Allways keep around a 30 degree angle of the fish so your top section doesnt fly off, which ive seen happen to people.
  6. The Tesco one work perfect. I think there only £3 or less for a big bag. I fix mine by usion one of those elastics that slide down the hook. Most tackle shops ive been in sell them, there a small elastic with a hole so far round that your hook goes through. Then u pull the band over the mixer.
  7. I do the same, i fire out a couple of dog biscuits usually to get them confident then flick out my piece of bread and the usually all go for it rather than dog buiscuits. And another good thing i find is that if i fire dog buiscits out the birds on the pool dont bother with them very much. Unlike bread which the haom in on.
  8. Started fishin at 5 with my grandad and im 17 now, below is me PB's in those 12 glorious years of sittin beside the bank Last 2 years ive been goin after my grandads PB's but have found stubling blocks at his better catches. Me Grandad's 4 unbreakables- Common Carp - 15Lb (Bucks Head Long Lane, Telford) I dare say i wont catch a fish in the way he did with this fish, landing a fish that size on 6 elastic, 3Lb main line and 1Lb Hook Length is beyond belief, he had to walk the bank for 1hour 45mins till he landed it. Pike - 13LB ( The Valley Pool, Telford) Barbel - 12Lb 8oz (Swinney Cliff, Ironbridge) Chub - 5lb (Swinney Cliff, Ironbridge) And here are my PB's. As you can see i only do well at 3 places Mirror Carp - 13Lb (Leegomary Top Pool, Telford) Common Carp- 12Lb (Leegomary Top Pool, Telford) Ghost Carp - 5Lb (Leegomary Top Pool, Telford) Roach - 1Lb 4oz (Melverley Farm Bottom Pool, Whitchurch) Rudd - 2Lb 1oz (Melverley Farm Bottom Pool, Whitchurch) Perch - 3Lb (Middle Pool, Telford) Tench - 4Lb 8oz (Middle Pool, Telford) Golden Tench - 1Lb 8oz (Melverley Farm Bottom Pool, Whitchurch) Bream - 5Lb (Middle Pool, Telford) Pike - 3Lb (Middle Pool, Telford) I caught 4 over 2Lb that day but havent had another over 1LB since Eel - 1Lb (Middle Pool, Telford) Crucian carp - 2Lb 3oz (Leegomary Top Pool, Telford) Biggest Bag Up - 87Lb 8oz (Kingswell Pool)
  9. Yeh works same as elasticated method feeder. What he found was wen the carp riped tehtip round theyd snap the hooklink 1 outa 3 times. So he elasticated them and hast had any trouble since. Everytime i go in theres someone buyin them and he also elasticates them for you. I forgot how he did it but ill go in tommorow and see how he does it.
  10. Personally i dont put the Hookbait in the feeder, I use a 2 inch hooklength. They work very good and i remember wen thy came out at tackle shop by me they sold out in a day. The tackle shop owner uses them all the time now and found them very good. Somehow he elasticates his feeder so that wen a fish bites the hook is set by the elastic as everyone found that if ur fishing after large carp they usually break the hooklengh wen they bite..
  11. I agree, at first glance i did laugh but after reading your post u cant dismiss them as a bait, maybe ill give them a try next time i go to Kingswell (Fish there are sucicidal and will eat anything, i caught 2 carp fishing with flamin hot flavoured moster munch surface fishing. Ow and a half a dozen gudgeon using bits of tomato and lettuce off me sandwitch)
  12. Middy Hi-Vis i believe is the best pole elastic goin. I thought of getting the hydro stuff but alot of people say thats its to dear and stretches to far which makes it awkward to land fish. Most people i know use hi-viz nowadays as its cheap and very good. I got 4 top kits with my pole and heres how ive done mine- Carp Top- Rating 18-22 (Blue) Carp Top- Rating 18-22 (Blue) -Spare Match Top- 12 - 16 (Pink/Red) Match Top- 6 - 10 (yellow) So for your 3 top kits id just drop the spare one i use. They do do smaller elastic rtings but i dont bother using them on the off chance i hook a larger fish wen going after silver fish. I only use the yellow top kit wen fishing after roach, bream and small carp and dont have any trouble bumping fish and have had carp to 9Lb on it. The 2 carp tops i use when fishing waters were there are chances of hitting carp over 10Lb and the pink/red top i use when fishing waters with carp to 10Lb or fishing waters with larger tench and bream.
  13. For me its Paste, I remember when i began fishing at 4 up until the age of 10 i fished a local pool a few miles away and allways used Meat and Paste and never bothered with anything else. I stopped fishing few years because we couldnt get a lift anymore. Then my grandad and i joined a club which a friend from his old works fished for. I never did much good on carp waters as i was oblivious to the fat that paste was the in thing and i didnt bother changing ways theat did well most of my life Then wen i was 15 a new tackle shop opened in the street and i came across a tub of paste and decided that i might aswell give it a shot and havent looked back. Duriong the summer months nothing can beat it, but my trusty corn still works its magic in thecolder months.
  14. I only night fish the one pool and i hate noises while im in my bivvie. The main problem is the coots on the pool, One particular it has a red beek and every time i night fish there one runs round the back of my bivvie in the trees and scares me sh**less some times. Another thing in my area is crime and a while 2 people were stabbed by someone. And i didnt know i went the night after th fisrt stabbing happened which really shook me up. I never went back till a month later when the person was caught. But one thing and this aint a joke, the main thing that im scared of is PUMAS. On the opposite corner of the pool i fish is a factory just behind some woodland and in the past years theyve had quite alot of sightings of pumas caught on cctv going round the building at night and also numerous sightings of it going round the pool by dog walkers. I thought it was a joke at first, but few years back while my grandad still working there he showed me a cctv footage from during the night while he was working showing one hang around for a few hours. I never walk round the pool at night and make sure im in me bivvie after certain time and make sure i zip up my bivvie wen i go and make sure i leave nothing out that might attract one. Hopefully ill never see one, i hope
  15. The world record Crucian is 8 lb 13 oz caught from Lake on Zealand in Denmark 2006
  16. Ive got 3 of the 2xl carp rods and 2xl reels which ive had for 2 years now, havent had a bother with them. Ive used them dozens of times and the paint job on them is still perfect so u must have just had a bad one. Ive recommended them to some people and me mate has 4 for just over a yea now and had no trobles either.
  17. Ill second that, the middy hi-viz hollow is brilliant, ive got the 18-22 in my top kit but small fish around a pound can pull out the elastic because its so stretchy so u dont bump the off. size 12 is ok for waters containing car to 10lb you wont bump the littles ones and you can land the bigger ones on it bacause how good it strecthes. One thing i found good about it is if a carp makes a run and stops the elastic pulls it back quite easily. I have'nt had that in other pole elastics and is very good for landing fish.
  18. Looks like the Capter looks terrified like hes seen a Ghost
  19. Hate wen it leaves on a cliffhanger Suppose we'll have to tune in next time to see the conclusion
  20. dont forget ebay, bought my Bivvie from there, JRC STI 1 man twin skin, only cost me £60, bloke i had it off only used it twice and didt have a single flaw. Actually i bought most of my tackle of ebay, get some real bargains on Broppers/Hangers. Oh and rod pods.
  21. All depends on the lake/river, day and whether the fish are on the feed at the time, some places the carp switch off on the pellet and paste some still love it. You can go to the river and barbel can do the same. 2 lakes near me are crazy i can go whne theres frost on the ground and still catch on top using floating bread. Now its colder id probaley change me paste and pellet to maggot and worms as most places the carp or any fish arent up to feeding on much. Id just feed very little and sometimes not at all on some places as i fish. But mostly now ill be tucked up in bed laughng as me grandad goes off in the mornin and laughing when he gets back haing blanked again
  22. What type of budget you working with for the rods and reels then everyone can tell ya which rods our best in that price range. Also are you thinking of getting a 2 or 3 rod setup? Rods Reels- If your lookin for somethin cheap and cheerfull then you may wanna look at some leeda i think they cost me £90 for the set. I bought 3 Leeda 2xl carp rods and reels. I didnt hve a big budget so i picked these up and ive had them for 2 years now and used them on quite a few night sessions. There still in perfect condition, ive had not a single bit of trouble with them. Line- I put a topic on here a while back and alot of people recommended Daiwa Sensor line, I bought the brown coloured one as some people dint care much for the clear version. Ive spooled my reels up with the 15Lb and 8lb line, ive had no trouble with it. I also use it when match fishing now because how good it is, found it cuts through weed and pads easy so i dont loose as many fish anymore. Ill let the others give ya help on line tackle and setups, i started 2 years ago and still havent really grasped the rig setups and bait presentation bits. I recommend watchin the Korda series, most ive learned on rig setups, methods and baits etc. is off there videos. Ive watched the seven parts three times and still cant remember half the setups used. Well theres some info for ya till the pros come on to share there knowledge
  23. After each break i was goin up in line strength, started at 4Lb then 6lb then 8lb and finally 10Lb. Even the 10Lb line got smashed. There were some real lumps in the pool and it was the 1st time id fished it and wasnt prpared for the size of the carp. A few people in the contest were usin margin poles and had 15Lb straight thru. THnaks for theideas so far, i really like that nesquit straw one. My sister has boxes of them so ill hav quite a few to make some floats.
  24. This year ive bee to a few fishery were late on is essential to fish the margins for carp to get a good weight of fish to come any were in the Match. Last time was at Maver Larford and at the end there were some lumps in the margins up to 20Lb. In the last hour i lost 4 floats which was £5 gone there I know some people liketo make there own floats wen fishing near snags so u lose nothing value wise in the process. I wander if any of you out there could help me in knocking up a few floats. Really there just be for indication wen margin fishing. I dont have a clue wat to use to make tham out of, but all i was gonna do once they were made was give them a base coat of white then add a red stripe and varnish them. I just need to make somethin simple to either superglue a swivel at the bottom or just use them inline. Any diagrams will be very useful and really any ideas will because i dont know were to start.
  25. I have a set of 3 myself and the Leeda carp rods. Had them for 2 years or so now and havent had the slighest bit of trouble with them. Used them on quite a few night sessions and still in full working order.
