Mullet

I always like to set myself an annual fishing challenge. Last year it was Flounder on a float. (success)

So this year its got to be Mullet. :notworthy:

Those that have met me may have noticed that I have this addiction called "float fishing" and it strikes me that Mullet could be my fix for this year.

The yak, even a big yellow one, has got to be an ideal way of tracking down these pesky varmints has anybody had any success?

Anybody mad enough to join me?

Light gear only, stalking their swims, can see it being really frustrating but definately a challenge.

All you Mullet specialists lets have your thoughts. Even better show me the way

Need advice.

Keep taking the tablets doesn't count.

Fished since 2003, the rest of my life I just wasted.

You mad fool. :D

A good article in Sea Angler this month that might, or might not be of some use, they were fishing a private marina which most of us won't be able to do, all the marina's I know don't allow fishing, but that might be different if your on your kayak :D

My challenge for this year is going to be catching Mackeral on feathers :D I did it last year, and I'm going to do it again this year. :D

Thanks SM

Booked a trip to the corner shop in the morning.

Thought Id leave that Mackeral lark untill I became a bit more confident. Tried feathering last year but the Gulls kept coming off the hook.

I have two targets for this year:

One is big and flat .... I WILL suck seed...

The second is to get as many species as possible without being fussy about the size, although big is better of course. So the Tope trip to Wales will still be a success for me if we don't get any Tope as long as I get some fancy Southern Softie species like Bass, Bream, Huss, Garfish, Small Eyed Ray... even Pouting will be welcome :)

Hi Darnsarf

Mullet from the yak is also a 2006 challenge of mine.

I caught 2 from the shore a fortnight ago on the maggot fly (biggest 4.5 -5lb)http://www.docladle.fishermen.co.uk/archive/catch129.html

and know that this is likely to be even easier from the yak: just need to get the timing right.

I also fancy having a go for the thin-lips in the harbours with a baited spoon.

Will let you know when I'm going to have a crack at this.
