Mullet

Mullet on fly is one of my targets this year over on the Mull of Galloway. Have made up some bread,weed and small rag flies to try and tempt them with.

 

The yakkers who are coming to the Mull on 01July for lads week,anyone gonna try fly gear?

my ambition is to catch more than one fish over 2 pounds in weight

since my ozzy girlfiend is leaving uk for good and taking my daughter with her ill need a hobby to keep me occupied and this year its gonna be the yak

I always like to set myself an annual fishing challenge. Last year it was Flounder on a float. (success)

 

So this year its got to be Mullet.

 

Those that have met me may have noticed that I have this addiction called "float fishing" and it strikes me that Mullet could be my fix for this year.

 

The yak, even a big yellow one, has got to be an ideal way of tracking down these pesky varmints has anybody had any success?

 

Anybody mad enough to join me?

 

Light gear only, stalking their swims, can see it being really frustrating but definately a challenge.

 

All you Mullet specialists lets have your thoughts. Even better show me the way

Three words; Groundbait,Groundbait,Groundbait.

I use liquidised makerel and sandeel, breadcrumb, pre digested anchovy meal and fish oil (salmon or codliver). Make it really fine so the fish smell and taste it but cant actually eat it. Loose feed with a few maggots and castors.

 

I've caught a few on artificial berkely maggot's but found real one's have a definate edge.

What is it about Mullet they exite me more than the Tope and believe me they get the blood pumping. Must be the thrill of the chase and challenge.

Your gonna love it if you can make it up for the Tope weekend and want a challenge, the Mullet in the river where we launch are THICK on the ground pity they're not thick in the head

Which do i target though? Tope on a float has a ring to it. But Mullet, what is it about them, think Im hooked.
