Mullet

Darnsarf,

Tope on the float has a certain appeal as an alternative method. :)

I've yet to see a Mullet caught there, apart from a few pictures in the tackle shop and in Paul Morgans book, Saltwater flyfishing in the UK, though I've seen hundreds trying and failing :headhurt:

Stuart.

I always like to set myself an annual fishing challenge. Last year it was Flounder on a float. (success)

So this year its got to be Mullet. :notworthy:

Those that have met me may have noticed that I have this addiction called "float fishing" and it strikes me that Mullet could be my fix for this year.

The yak, even a big yellow one, has got to be an ideal way of tracking down these pesky varmints has anybody had any success?

Anybody mad enough to join me?

Light gear only, stalking their swims, can see it being really frustrating but definately a challenge.

All you Mullet specialists lets have your thoughts. Even better show me the way

Need advice.

Keep taking the tablets doesn't count.

Hiya Darnsarf.

I will be up for a mullet sesion.Either up Southampton way or In Poole Harbour.I will use my match rod and 4lb line.Should be fun.

I have caught a mullet b4 from the beach when I was in a match a few years ago.But that was on heavy line so was no fun really.

If you know Poole Harbour Im happy to travel.

Southampton has the little blighters but the strong tides and those finger waving sailing people (odd breed of human that inhabit marinas) spoil a lot of the potential sites.

Poole will be the best bet then :)

I know a few good places where there are some monsters.I think they are very hook shy though.

It will have to be the upper Reaches of the Harbour,Near Rockly or in Holes Bay.

The end of June should be a good time to fish it.Once the sea weed starts to rot.

Phooey,

You mentioned earlier that mullet are in the fleet at Chesil, is it possible to fish it as I got the impression it was some kind of nature reserve?. <_<

Reason I ask is I and other half will be coming down for a weeks camping in the near future and there is a campsite right next to it. Any info on this or other (safe, I'm a novice thy kno's :2: ) area's would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Nemo: The Fleet is a nursery area, so to my knowledge can't be fished. If you want to catch mullet then Weymouth Harbour is your best bet. There are vast shoals of them where the Radipole sluice gates flow into the main harbour.

Zippy/Darnsarf etc. There should be plenty of mullet in Poole Harbour by now as there are quite a few running the river up to Wareham. With the weather forecast looking sh*t for the weekend, the missus is threatening me with decorating our bedroom. Anyone fancy rescuing me on one of the days to have a crack at the Poole Harbour fish (weather permitting of course)?

Location: Wareham, Dorset

Yak: OK P13 (yellow)

Hmmmm!

Just thinking out loud.

An article about mullet fishing from a yak would make a good article for 'Grey Ghost', the National Mullet Club magazine, and spread the idea of yak-fishing a little further.

If anyone fancies putting pen to paper, email/pm me and I'll let you have the editor's email address.

(Unfortunately, there won't be any cash in it!)
