Bloodworm

I may be well off the mark, or trying to teach granny to suck eggs but I imagine that bloodworm would be a very desirable bait for a lot of coarse fish, but difficult to obtain, hard to use and possibly banned at a lot of venues.

I use an artificial bloodworm fly when fishing for trout which is a passable imitation of the real thing. Given that things like artificial sweetcorn etc is widely used would it not be worth trying an artificial bloodworm?

This might give you an idea of what they look like.

I have some real bloodworm preserved in oil, Sensas branded and quite old by all accounts.

Never seen another jar like them.

I have some too, I got them years ago, there in a small glass jar with a black or gold label, to be honest tey still look very useable even after some 15 years!

Now they live a happily retired life in my old match fishing box, never to see the light of day.....

Possibly the fisrt ever artificial bait manufactured (ignoring lures) was Mystic paste. A plastic like substance in a small tube that was moulded to form an artificail bloodworm. I remember buying this stuff 25 years ago and it was not new then. Sensas still make it though it also comes in a range of coulours so I suppose its use must now go beyond bloodworm alternative.
