  1. I am surprised no ones added good old sweetcorn,as good a bait as any for Tench.

    Snakes?

Very often see snakes out on the Marshes where I fish, please remember all snakes are protected.
  4. Sweetcorn, sweetcorn and more sweetcorn(mind you where I fish the Eels love it too!!)
  5. Purchased a set of "Spectre"floats, what expensive rubbish! they sit so low in the water that one can hardly see anything and don,t try to add a tiny shot to help the hook sink,as they disappear completely.
  6. Can really sypathise over the ticket, for gods sake don't come to hastings and try parking other than in the expensive council car parks. The wardens are like hawks, even with disabled drivers.
  7. Here where I live there are a few clubs that cater for lake as well as river fishing,I joined one the other year but found that there was no contact between members except for the "inner"few. At the start of the new season no one approached me regarding a new subscription.
  8. What a very good response this is,I agree entirely with what is written. Lets not become complacent about our angling, there are many a "anti"just dying to get at us now they have got fox hunting banned. I for one very much doubt that this Swan was poisoned because of an angler. Re:Brian Carragher
  9. Very interesting post from JanO, I looked at the web link, luckily I can speak and read Swedish. What is interesting is that they, the club are introducing Crayfish into the lake, where as here in GB.we just consider them a pest to be got rid of.
  10. If you don't know these weird sounding knots(Idon't sic!),just type in fishing knots into your browser and page after page of sites will appear, many of them give simple instructions.
  11. Just to add,I tied a size 14 hook to these floats and baited with a lob worm, the float completely disappeared from view.
  12. After reading about these new Spectre floats,I waited with great expectations, the arrival of the ones I had purchased and they arrived last saturday morning in time for me to try them over the week-end. Regretfully,I am very disappointed with them, they sit far too low in the water for my liking, leaving only about half an inch at the most above water, this may be great if fishing the margins on a totally wind still day but at any other time it seems impossible to judge if there is any fish interested in ones bait. They are not cheap and I expected something better.
  13. I have been given permission to fish the Guldeford drain,no one can remember when it was last fished,I shall try and fish it in stages as I am restricted to how far I can walk in one go. Will be pleased to leave reports as I go.Should be interesting to say the least.
  14. Will be fishing my usual lake out on the marshes at Rye together with two of my grandsons, just hope the wind drops a little, for their sake more than mine. Should be some good fishing though.
  15. Thanks for the link but how big/little are they, where can one find them/get them?
  16. Dunno about bait for catfish but taste really nice backed in the oven!
  17. Hi just looked at the video, very good m8.only complaint was the music, bit dull I thought. By the way, anyone who wants to watch it just highlight the link then copy and paste into your browser, works a treat. Wish all success with your venture.
  18. I have heard that blood worms are a fantastic bait for many kinds of fish, but I have never seen one, what do they look like??
  19. I regularly fish on the Walland marsh, unfortunately I am disabled and unable to walk very far so I cannot fish all the drains that I would like to.If you are looking for new British records, then no,it is not the place to fish but this year I have caught eels to 2.5lb.Tench to 6.5lb and carp to 11.5lb and being as wild as one can get these days they all give the Angler a tidy fight.I have also had Roach/Rudd to around 1.5lb.and I would think there are larger ones waiting for the specialist. Perhaps it no bad thing that most think its a waste of time,at least theres no competition
  20. Can't argue with you and don't want to either as I did'nt fish the marshes in the 70s and 80s,but most if not all the Walland marsh is still sheep farming. Some arable has always been farmed,I can remember as a boy going with J.Fountain and sons to collect new potatos and boxes of tomatos. Today most of the marsh is a nature reserve much being SSSI.the water levels are carefully controlled to try and accommodate several interested parties.(too many to list here) I know the main contractor for weed cutting and he catches many a Pike in double figures in his scoop wich he puts back and I believe that there is still some good fishing to be had in the drains and larger dykes.
  21. Hi, I have just read some of Roger Stanton's articals and as usual they are very interesting and entertaining, however,I come from his "country"and I can assure you all that no drains have been "filled in"by farmers or anyone else. I happen to know many of the people concerned with the drainage of the marsh and it is very carefully regulated. I fish for the most part on the marsh but being disabled I am unable to walk very far,not far enough to fish the drains. VERY few fish these now a days and i would not be surprised if there were some very big fish to be had. Happy fishing oldnewby
