Davy, was you using a grip lead? if so did you have a big belly of line out with it holding your grip lead into the seabed uptide of your position on the boat in 300ft of water?

As I've said before Davy, to fish uptide effectively, or "properly", you have to cast at least 3 times the depth of water you are fishing in.  

Ahh now were getting somewhere

 

It's the same as anchoring, to anchor properly you need 3 times the depth of water in rope.. Ask most boat owners and they will tell you you cant anchor properly with any less rope than that. We anchor "properly" with 1 x the depth of water in rope...

 

So because we don't use the right amount of rope.. we cant call that anchoring????
