At the begining of this week, I had the unenviable job of having to attend a Nasty bus Crash in the city of London. I was the duty first Aider at work and the Accident took place adjacent to the building that I worked in. So I felt duty bound to attend and support in any way I could. When I arived at the scene the city of London police were all ready in attendence. the bus was more or less empty of passengers so the only casualty was the driver, a young African Lad whos legs were trapped in the badley mangled drivers compartment of the bus.

I was prevented from approaching the bus by the police as it had collided with the front of a glass fronted building, which had become structualy unsound .So all I could do watch this young man in distress not being able to even offer him company or comfort I found this quite upsetting (maybe Im just getting old). But the thing that made me Mad was the MORONIC NUMPTYS that actualy crossed the road to take photgraphs of this unfolding drama with mobile phone Camaras What is happening to our sociaty surely these poeples lives arn't so bereft of ecxitement that they need to titilate themselves with somebodys pain and missfortune.

I remonstrated with one man who looked at me as if I was a lunatic........Am I

 

I now some of you are Nurses ,Fire fighters, police & paramedics,

 

You have firstly my sincere thanks and secondly my profound sympathy because I wanted to thump the Idiots, and this was a one off incident in my life. You guys put up with these rubber necking tw@ts week in week out. I honestly dont Know how you stay so professional in the face of these Ghouls.

Ghouls is a very polite name for these "things", a lot of them then try to sell their pics to the papers

 

In other words, you're not on your own, reguarding your loathing of there so called people. I too detest them mate!!

Why not take pictures?

I know some may frown on it but it's down to choice.

 

Plus you could earn a few bob by selling the pictures to the press.

Just the flip side of the coin. If the police were already there then why did you bother to go down to the crash scene? They have better training than a duty first aider. Did you yourself have a morbid fascination?

I saw this one coming and I see where you are coming from,

 

I was told that the acident had taken place by an American tourist who ran into our building asking if any one was CPR trained untill this piont I was unaware of the drama unfolding outside, I have been defib trained and attending seemed like a good idea as I may have been in a position to make a positive impact on the situation should it be called for. Secondley seeing as I was in possetion of the only Defib machine at the site of the accident and allso beeing the only person qaulified to use it( oddly enough its very simple you just have to follow the automated instructions) I was asked to hang around untill the Paramedics arrive as a last resort should the lad Arrest. thirdley when the paramedics arived I left the scene as I was of no further use. Just to add to this most (not all) police and fire fighters have only the appionted persons qaulification. wich is the bare minimum to preserve life Now I am no paramedic but having the four day first aid at work qaulification and being defib trained I may well have been the most qualified person there at that given piont.

 

Ferret I rarely dissagree with your posts I allso realise that you are a keen photographer. but the mobile phone thing just seedy and unhelpfull, poeple wanting somthing to show like minded poeple the sh!t that they saw today. Not one of these pics would be of politzer prize standard ,and doing it for money in my opinion makes them no beter than the monsters that took photos of Dianas last moments in Paris. Journalisum is important so is art :this meets niether Criteria. Just my piont of veiw though Mate no more or less valid than yours.

I knew where this story was going from the third line.

No there's nothing wrong with recording an incident but when it gets to the point of having multiple ar53holes sticking cameras in the face of someone who is injured or dying, it's way beyond reasonable.

We've even had the situation where these "peopl2" have prevented paramedics getting to their patients.

I'm not arguing with anything you say just looking at it from another angle.

 

 

I missed out on what some would say a 'sick pic' the other week as a suicide jumper was on a bridge over the A5.

The pictures and story from where I was would have made a good read but I didn't have my main camera and my phone cam is crap.

 

It was good news in the end as the woman jumper was dragged over the barrier to safety.

 

Now I saw that as skills from the emergency services and not looking for a bloody mess on the tarmac.

Simple solution to this, EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN POINT OF VIEW!

 

Mine is that the people taking the pics should be locked up.

 

So far this has been a civil debate, lets see if we can keep it that way

Curiosity?

 

Now how usefull would it be if just one of the pictures helped the police solve the riddle of what may have happened?

 

The police always need extra witnesses and having data/proof on 'film' could be usefull.

 

Ok so there's gonna be your sickos about but I don't think the folk taking the pictures aren't sickos.

Just morbid curiosity.

 

Plane crashes, train crashes and the like all get attention.

 

The age of the mobile/digi camera has just made things more convinient(sp).

 

 

If anyone really wanted to get blood n guts pictures just sit outside the local ambulance station, just follow them to the incedents(sp).

nothing new, public executions used to draw vast crowds and was treated as a public spectable with all the pomp of the last night of the proms .

even the most horrific sight is interesting to those that havent seen it ,nothing wrong with it and if a few more glimpses of real crashes and other accidents etc were shown on telly then i'd expect a few (for a short while till the images faded) would think twice about their actions that could result in the same outcome.

death and destruction is all around us but hardly seen ,morbid or facinating its all in perspective.

i enjoyed in particular that german chappies plasticated series on the tv ,nothing morbid nothing horrific but still dead bodies ,many wanted it banned long before they even saw it .luckily the tv company didnt give in to these loud but few voices and let the majority make their own minds up to whether it was goulish ,i bet the vast majority was enthralled as i was despite its content
