Whiting bonanza

From reports I am receiving from friends beach fishing between Dungeness and Deal, the sea seems to be full of decent sized whiting, at the moment.

 

Fishing at Sandgate last night, one had 32 in 5 hours, all over 1lb in weight.

Bait was lug and squid strip, or just squid strip.

He also had a "nuisance" bass of 3lbs.

Same every year along there. October to November, then they are mostly gone. I'm going Tuesday evening, but not for Whiting, too small. Big bait, big hook, big fish.

I remember it well, spent days telling us they didn't exist then went and caught one.

 

I'm going tomorrow, of course where I'm going there are no 3-4lb codling or 10lb+ Bass.....

I dont mind to catch a small whiting at this time of year.......put a 6/0 or 7/0 through its top lip and back out 20 to 30 yds for Monsieur Bass!

Why don't you use a wishbone rig, and use one small hook for the whiting, with a short snood with a big hook near to the whiting. Saves casting the whiting out, and it lives longer.

Or hair rig a small baited hook onto a large hook.
