Vinyl to MP3

It's been asked on here before I know, BUT, did you know you can now get a USB turntable??

So just record all those all albums straight to your computer. There's a bit of file conversion to do but the main feature is getting the albums onboard the computer.

Costs from £100 +

I've put my order in to Father Christmas.

no need for all that just plug your right and left outputs from the turntable into the inputs of the soundcard ans away you go ,the same bit of cable will record sound from anything with an audio output ,video can be grabbed as well with a dongle .

got a video the day before mtv was supposed to show it exclusively from an alternative channel

not only grab sound but complete music vids  all you have to do is wait for them to appear on sat :)

the creative audigy will record sound as a wav then you can convert it using the same software to mp3 etc.

the vids are grabbed with microsoft moviemaker.

i'v backed up all my favourite tapes to CD but unfortunately my records probably are too scratched to make it worth while :(

not worth hunting in the loft for the turntable to see which record has the less scratches

I think you'll find that the turntable needs a pre amp for it to work, some dont. If you plug the cartridge output straight into the mic socket the sound quality is poor. Thats what i found anyway.

Go to the advanced setting on your sound card and turn on the 20dB gain for your microphone

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Dan

never had a problem plugging in anything and i'm not using the mike port ;)

even the basic audigy 1 i have has digi in ,optical in ,firewire in,and a host of other "in's" probably you will need a pre amp on a motherboard sound card if it only has basic settings i'l agree.

Colin the humming means your deck isnt earthed ,just the decks earth via a crocodile clip to the pc case and away it goes

in older mains plugs there was a gap above the earth pin (in the plug case) where your earth lead could connect ,probably frowned apon nowadays though hence modern plugs lack them

saying that though earth doesent always mean "ground" or even "earth" as the earth could be faulty where it went into the earth (as in dirt) in dry weather the ground spikes plates become less connected with the dirt so "less" real earth as it were ,earth can also float and have a voltage themselves :o

i expect modern houses have earth problems with their plastic pipes ,at least with a iron water pipe it served as a fairly good earth if a real one wasent fitted. :(
