My personal best is 21.5 lb from Kingsmead on a paternostered sprat. It was taken from a swim right next to the car park along with two smaller doubles. It was particularly satisfying because all the self-proclaimed experts were struggling at the time. Bizarrely, I caught the same fish the next day in the very same spot with the same tactics.

Since then, I may have beaten it with a very nice fish caught on a small spinner on the Itchen while it was in flood, but since I don't weigh fish anymore, I can't say for sure.

yeh the pike did return in great health and we believe the next day wen we went again my m8 had a run but it did snap his line, but he said it looked like the same 1 i had on so alls good

A pike shouldn't be snapping your mate's line.

Have a look here for some tips on the right kind of tackle to use for piking.
