I dont think "Jack" is a derogatory term Ken.Its an old traditional reference to any pike.Just in recent decades has it become a term for small pike.

Certainly not used by pike anglers in the same dissmisive way "pasties" is in carp fishing. Well not by any proper pike angler I know.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

When I were a lad, large pike were called Johnnies.

(maggots were called gentles back then)

Now when OI were a lad gentles were called "mawks"

A "Johnny" was something very different from a pike

...and as for all male pike being called "Jack", well, it's worse for ruffe. Male or female, they all get called "Tommy"
